From trying getting a shiny Pokemon, getting a specific material for a weapon, and worse a pay wall.Especially since my luck isn't quite up there like some people.
Quite a huge chunk of mobile games are like this. The same could be said for certain MMOs. Nioh is a bit of this too despite the player still able to complete the game without digging into RNG related items, but the fun stuff comes from those items unfortunately, which is relying on luck.
The paywall is the heavy obstacle from companies taking advantage of such things unfortunately yeah. It's messed up, but it kinda does make sense. If an MMO is pay to win, chances are the player's enjoyable experience will be temporary and may end up shelling more money than they have to.
@DestructionBomb It's a scummy tactic, but a brilliant one in business. "Oh you want this very powerful weapon, well there's a CHANCE you might get it. Although if you pay *insert amount here* then there's a higher chance of getting it."
The double-edge sword from RNG factors yup. I'm not a big fan of RNG myself when it comes to a paywall added. If there's anything RNG related that I'd tolerate, it has to be a game where the gameplay is super good enough to get addicted for you to grind for stuff to enjoy it while being free. If the game puts people to sleep while having RNG, I'd probably stop playing in the first 15 mins.
I say Dragonball Xenoverse & X2 are pretty bad when it comes to it. (I do enjoy the game) Not sure if you played them before, but for gaining more attacks, a piece of a costume, and Z souls you have to do quests. It features a rating system which the highest is Z. You see even if you manage to get the highest rank, it's not a guarantee of getting a specific reward you want.
Which means you have to do that quest again, and do a specific event in that quest to trigger the extra stuff which would take a bit longer to complete. Hoping that you would get that move when finished.
The worst I had to deal with recently was Xenoblade 2 pre-NG+. It forces you to grind and pray to RNGesus just to collect all the Blades, and these Blades are tied to unique quests. The only thing that made me stop is that these unique quests are bad and cringeworthy most of the time.
