What about Naruto Ultimate Ninja and Budokai Tenkaichi ?

I think he means that 3D fighters don't use the 3rd Dimension much... even in DoA the fights are mostly two dimensional for the majority of the time with the 3rd dimension only being used for side steps and free stepping.

That 's what lulu explained. i was watching at a tekken match. Even though characters are in 3D, you only use 2 dimensions (left or right). Below or above are not used. Sidestep is not really used. They are more detailled than SF, but the mecanics remain the same.
