The issue with it is that Smash both competitively and casually is a much bigger game than DOA is and will ever be. I'm not saying that people wouldn't watch DOA events and even participate at them but it might not live a long and glorious life.

That's true @ChaolanLegacy, but that comes from within. People who play DOA need to embrace what it is and show up. If you ride for the game come out and play it. Start communities. Tell your friends. Grow it from within and it'll get to where it needs to be.
