I feel that they weren't as bad as people say that they are. The gameplay was clunky but it was ok, you were able to switch fighting styles and weapons on the fly and mid-combo too, so they definitely tried to innovate with these games, the characters had potential both in gameplay and in terms of story, also, speaking of story, they definitely took an interesting turn with it by killing the MC, bringing forth...

the dark era of MK's story and both Deception and Armageddon give that atmosphere back quite well. These games had a ton of kontent to them and they came up with new ideas even when they reused a ton of assets in Armageddon, like the Kreate-a-Fatality system. They're not great and I can see why these games are part of "the dark era of MK games" but they were decent, Deception was a pretty good game imo.
