No the plot had nothing to do with the original silent hill and only briefly mentioned the city twice, it actually borrowed a lot from the actual film instead of the older games which is why a lot of fans didn't like it
Homecoming is bad because the gameplay is awfully done if you have played SH 1 - 3 you'll know what I mean. Further more there was just no originality to the enemies are plot points it was just the same thing we've seen before and adding Robbie Rabbit and the SH2 nurses for no reason at all. clunky controls and lack of puzzles/true horror and it's also more action orientated.
oh and Pyramid Head like guys what was the reason for those? SH2 enemies were like they were for a reason, enemies in SH are supposed to mirror the psyche of the MC. And Otherworld transitions were just uninspired. It's basically a hollow shadow of what SH is same with Downpour.
If you don't get the enemies then you aren't really thinking about them. Look up some symbolism theories 'cuz I don't have enough space here. One example is the Siam, which represents Alex's mother and father.
Nurses, he was in an mental hospital. The nurses also have visible fetuses inside them you see when there's a light behind them which ties into the pregnancy/birth theme throughout the game. Pyramid head and RR, idk.
It's not that I don't get them it's just that instead of using original ideas to mirror MCs psyche they copped out and used SH2 looks.
Nurses, they could have used literally ANYTHING for the nurses, SH1 had male and females nurses with huge parasytes and SH3 had messed up/murderous nurses with blood around the mouth and SH4 and big ugly transvestite nurses. There was zero reason to add the "sexy" SH2 nurses.
Sexual repression with his feelings for that girl and just being a young man with hormones, as well as feelings towards the nurses in the mental institution. I believe that was the reason for them in sh2. Perhaps that is a cop out, perhaps it was just for sexyness, perhaps it was an intentional throwback to the most popular nurses, same with pyramid head since he's popular.
But there were so many small references to Alex's story that it felt personal to him. The people in the beginning getting mutilated Hostel style were all his little brother. The man that gets killed by pyramid head (foreshadowing as that happens later) was his dad.
