I'd say that they were meant to have similar playstyles. They're supposed to the balanced pick up and play guys with little difficulty. And I don't know exactly what your playstyle is so I'll suggest Hitomi and Hayabusa.

I don't think Kasumi is for me bacause I felt uncomfortable being in the opponents face all the time. So I guess I prefer being mid/long range? I would like the character to have some mixup ability and be good at whiff punishing?

Jann would probably be your best bet along with maybe Ayane. Those are pretty good with whiff punishing and mixups. I think you'll like them.
