Just hold H and A) mash all the attack buttons or B) mash all the directional buttons or roll the analog stick like crazy.

and I don't mean it in an offending way, like as in someone who is new at DOA and likes to counter spam a lot!

I believe they changed it in 5U where you have to do all the directions for it to work because before something like 646464646464 would've been good enough. I try to roll my thumb in circles on the d-pad but I've heard spinning the analog stick works better.

Oh and not to mention holding guard the whole time and making sure you don't hit a direction before pressing it or else you'll accidentally hold

No, you hold down the guard button as you do the directions. Don't let your finger leave guard. The first comment I left was sarcasm
