That's a lie. Because up until this year, KOF was both of those things and had a presence at EVO that even haters couldn't ignore. On the other side, the smash that everyone considers competitive and plays doesn't even HAVE online capability.
DOA has a lot of issues being popular and respected, but the netcode is only one of them and isn't even the biggest one.
But it's true. DOA is a free game right now on PSN. People give it a try, realize the netcode is garbage. Then they drop it immediately. DOA4 was way more popular than 5 ever was. And 5 has only been improvements. You're right, there's a bunch of reasons, but the netcode is a gigantic reason. No one is even going to give it a try because of the netcode.
No, that is not true. Street Fighter's netcode is pretty bad too. Though it's playable on 360, it still lags & kicks ppl out of lobbies. It also messes with juggle & punishing reactions. It may be able to encourage people to play it yes, but DOA & the community in general have to make the strides that will make people respect it. It starts with the players. Also DOA is already extremely popular.
I can also tell you how bad MK & Injustice's online netcode is too, but the communities are extremely strong & love the games. I'm also in those communities as well as SF's (learning the game now as we speak to play offline).
No doubt, the community is what will matter the most. I just wonder how many people badmouth DOA as just eye candy that's unplayable. The biggest player base is the console gamers. I think it would open up people's minds a little if they could actually play it without the bullshit.
Smh 140 characters -___-. Sorry, but I forgot to respond to the popularity part. DOA is one of the best selling fighting game franchise around today & has been for a long time. The popularity is there. It's the matter of the franchise's interest & community growing.
I haven't played enough injustice or MK to know. But that's sobering to hear. SFIV was pretty good when I played, but I probably got lucky within the 5 hours I only played of it.
It's unfortunate that you have cornballs in the FGC who looks down on our game for the wrong reasons, but at the same time, if you look at what a lot of the players request of the game instead of what it actually needs in order to be even better, that makes it even worse. It shouldn't take a huge pot bonus to make players come out. TN loves the game, but they also do things that causes draw back for the FGC.
