I recommend the Hauppauge PVR it let's you use an HDMI unless you're on PS3. However it does come with a component attachment so you can record a PS3.

No sir, you just hook it up to your computer and TV and you can use your TV like normal. And if your computer can handle it you can use that too. If not you experience severe lag on the computer output.
