Well..... He doesn't make good games (although I can't say for sure, I only played one of them) If you would like an explanation I'd be happy to endulge you but its excrutiatingly long winded and probably not worth your time.
He headed the development Armored Core For Answer, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and the impending Dark Souls 3. I love all three games dearly and I am sure to adore DS3 when it is out.
He doesn't make good games? You hate him? Back up your position, please. As of now, you are making no sense.
@His Reverence
Dark Souls Gameplay would be considered bad design in any other game..... which is why I can't agree with your statement..... it just doesn't make any sense.
Bad design? If that is the case then why does everyone and their mother praise the design of DS?
Dark Souls was a massive hit because it was different and refreshing. It differentiated itself from other games by going back to basics. It succeeded where many other games had not because it did so.
@Rikuto
Well yeah..... the irony of which is Dark Souls isn't challenging either.
@His Reverence
Believe me I've been trying to figure that very mystery out for quite sometime now..... and in part I did manage to get Half of the answer from Matthew. The other half is that part that baffles me.
Oh, don't be tough about it. People who say dark souls isn't challenging are just fooling themselves. There aren't a lot of games out there providing a lot more challenge unless you get into the territory of troll games like cat mario.
LoL.... I'm serious and this is actually a thing Souls Player's themselves have mentioned numerous times, This is what cause people like Epic Name Bro to propose the Self Imposed Challenge Series. If you think Dark Souls is hard then I'm going to assume you aren't one of those people who constantly circle strafes every enemy.
If you're dying, obviously there is a challenge. Dark Souls tests your memory, reaction, meter management and problem solving skills during combat. It sounds more like you're simply seeking a different type of challenge.
Yeah me getting Squashed by an attack I have no clue how to deal with isn't what I would call challenging. It was cheap. It would have been challenging if I knew it was coming and knew what my options were to deal with it and died because I failed to execute on that......
Dark Souls is challenging in the same way catching a cold is challenging.
thats a good excuse the first time, but after you understand that enemy pattern you should be able to devise a plan. any game with a death mechanic you're going to die discovering the pattern at least once. you can still avoid dying to first time enemies by being careful even so. you dont play these types of games we do, that would be like me judging a puzzle game.
