Think of it as the middle man between your computer and tv. I recommend external capture cards they require less specs. I use a happague and it never failed me.
Just to clear up possible confusion, I believe the term 'capture card' originally referred to a component that was installed directly into one's PC so it could receive AV input. It eventually came to mean any device that served that function, regardless of whether it was utilized internally or externally (such as via USB).
Capture cards tend to be pretty pricey though (especially El Gato). If you've got a PS4/XBox one then it might be best to just stick with the video record options on those unless getting that 1080 P HD really justifies the purchase for you.
@samuraihachi The main reason why I want one is because I want to put different VG music in my videos, my ps4 doesn't seem to want to count my phone as a USB storage device, and it won't let me add my music in the videos, which is disappointing.
^^This. Also, why not just record the gameplay with the music off, then add music to it later using a video editor program? Like I would record my DOA matches with the in-game music off, put the file on a storage device and then edit the matches on my computer.
Heh...um, that's the thing, I don't have a USB stick or drive at the moment to use. I think I may have one somewhere, but Idk how to download music to usbs. I'm hoping there's an app I can use somewhere in the meantime
If you don't feel like using a USB stick, you can alternatively upload your gameplay to Facebook (PS4 has this option, dunno about xbox). You can make a FB account just for gameplay uploads. Then you can download it and edit on your computer. I've done this before for a couple of my DOA matches too.
What everyone else is saying. Though if you have an editing program such as Adobe After Effects, Pinnacle Movie Studios etc. You can port your videos there and add music within the timeline. For USBs they are external, so once you pop it in within your PC you can open up the small drive to add music in there.
Same goes for the PS4 if you want to take out the clip there, you'll need a Thumbdrive/USB.
Also there are rumors of 720p60 recording off the PS4.5, so you may want to hold on a capture device since all you really need is a Video off the PS4 > thumb drive > PC.
You will save a lot more that way anyway. You just have to make sure you get a USB that is worth more than a gigabyte if you are looking to gather lots of videos/clips.
