I mean more in general, most players you encounter nowadays seem to get more annoyed at being "locked out" than just rushed down. I guess because it makes it harder to approach the person doing the spacing

Sounds like scrub mentality. Spacing, zoning, and killing the opponent for whiffing is an aspect that has to be understood.
