Disclaimer: I am no way affiliated with AmEx and I'm only posting the info for anyone who is interested. Also if you choose to do this, you are doing so on your own accord. So if anything goes wrong, I'm not responsible (although nothing should).
So I'm just throwing this out there because I know we all like to save money. Now I'll admit there are some work to be done and everyone may not be able to do it because of the requirements but those who do, 20% of a next-gen system is not a bad deal.
So what is needed?
- American Express Serve prepaid debit card
- An NFC-capable Android smartphone (your courier must be AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon) and have the necessary NFC sim card (You can see if you phone is compatible here: https://www.paywithisis.com/get-started.html)
- Isis mobile wallet app
So basically what's going on here is that if you have all of the above, link your American Express Serve card to your Isis mobile wallet app, and you use your phone to make a "tap and go" payment, AmEx will give you a 20% statement credit to your Serve account (up to a limit of $200, until Jan. 31, 2014) based on that purchase.
Now I have not been able to do this myself yet, but from what I've researched most places where you get your system from does not accept "tap and go" payments, but CVS is an official partner for the Serve card and they do. And many people have confirmed you can use "tap and go" to buy gift cards from CVS, which I know they sell gift cards for at least Best Buy and Gamestop.
Also on top of that, if you are willing to get two direct deposits to your Serve account, AmEx will give you $50 free, and that has nothing to do with Isis.
Once I get my hands on an compatible NFC phone and try this out, I will come back here and post the results. I just wanted to post this for anyone else that wants to try this since the deal only lasts until Jan. 31, 2014.
If you have any questions, ask them and I'll try my best to answer them.
