You didn't really read that article all that well if that's what you pulled out of it. The NYC asteroid was a hypothetical situation. There isn't an asteroid going to hit NYC in 1-3 weeks.

No there is an actual asteroid coming towards NYC but won't arrive until 2020 or 2050 can't remember

Nope, it's all hypothetical. Nothing in the article states anything about an actual asteroid hitting NYC.

And the asteroid that might hit in 2020 (2012 DA14) will hit either Antarctica or the southern ocean.
