So I'm looking back at my library, and realizing I've taken a liking to...not to sound 90s, but "extreme" games, and loving them oh so much. I can say some of my top games of the past decade+ would be

Asura's Wrath
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, and NUNS3 (Specifically, bosses in story mode)
WET
Ninja Blade
Sonic Unleashed
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Onechanbara Bikini Samurai Squad
One Piece Unlimited Adventure
Lollipop Chainsaw
Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing
Saints Rows 2-4, but 3 especially.
Gravity Rush (not sure if Vita should count)

Just...those games where the action is completely over the top, but in an AWESOME way. Hurling skyscrapers at giants, riding bikes through airborne debris, jumping between cars in traffic during action scenes, deflecting lazers by twirling rave lights, suplexing a zombie so hard its upper body explodes and liquifies all over the pavement, etc. And then there's goddamned Whitebeard.

These games may not be the most polished, but they are amazing nonetheless, and probably the most fun I've had gaming lately. Usually an adrenaline rush, too.

What are your favorites like these? Please keep it to the Wii/PS3/360 era. Before that its an overload of games like these.

The Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku games, Kenzan through 5 (I guess Ishin and 0 don't count since they're on PS4 as well)

Probably the most badass, hilarious, over the top and touching underated game series ever. Those games just do everything so right its ridiculous (the series has made me cry 3 freaking times lol) not to mention the games come EVERY YEAR, with each being better than the last. So good.

Other than that, i'm a huge fan of action games myself and last gen had:

-Bayonetta
-Vanquish
-DmC (Yeah i know the game was dumb but none can deny the gameplay was freaking fantastic)
-DMC4
-Ninja Gaiden (1-3)
-God of War 3
-Darksiders (1-2)
-Dante's inferno
-Castevania: Lords of Shadow (1-2. Same case as DmC)
-No More Heroes (1-2)
-MadWorld
-Anarchy Reigns

If you play those games one after another you're probably bound to die of hype overdose. ;)

I actually want to add Bullet Witch, if only for the concept, but I didn't really get to play it. Looked awesome though.

Out of the rest of those, only played Ninja Gaiden 1 and No More Heroes 1. Loved both of em. Never beat No More Heroes though.

Although Ninja Gaiden 1 is xbox one era so I leave it out. Plus it didn't really have any "insane" moments, just kinda of...regular paced standard action.

Bullet Witch was cool in concept, but unfortunately came a little short in gameplay. Real shame, the game had a lot of potential.

You didn't finish NMH? Awww, that game and its sequel are freaking awesome. Oh shit, how'd i forget Killer Is Dead? add that to the list. ;)

I was mostly referring to Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3 exclusives) pretty much the definitive NG experience. :)

Ugh...I got Sigma Plus on Vita. Hate the Rachel segments and various other changes, plus you can't get the original NGs or Future Ninja outfits anymore...:(

Have you tried all the games I listed in the OP?

I have, i didn't think Unleashed was very good though lol. Also Saints Row 4 was a blast to play, The Third was kinda meh.

Yeah, Sigma Plus is kind of a mess lol.

One game I enjoyed immensely was Red dead redemption....beautiful game with an awesome and meaningful story. I also liked Soul Calibur 4, and Mortal Kombat 9.

Really?! Unleashed is my second favorite Sonic game lol. Werehog wasn't the best, but Daytime was just an adrenaline rush.

My problem with SR4 is that it was just Crackdown. Whereas SR2 and 3 were "What if GTA was fun?"

What's your first then? Generations? It better be lol, but yeah no, i'd take Colors over Unleashed any day.

Nah man, the story in that game was hilarious and you're forgetting the SUPAHPOWAHS lol, that and you can listen to What is Love on the radio. XD

oh god no, Colors was the first sonic game to bore me so much I never finished it. HATED The wisp gimmick and everything coming to a grinding halt for stop and hop platforming.

My all time favorite is the first Sonic Adventure.

And in SR2 and SR3 you had straight 80s radio stations lol. So now when I hear "Take On Me" "Karma Chameleon", etc, it brings back memories of SR lol.

yeah lol, I just love the smooth and fluid gameplay of Adventure and Unleashed. And the sheer adrenaline rush of it all.

Colors and Generations? Not enough speed and platforming was stiff and choppy. Unleashed's platforming may have been stiff too but it was also seamless with the speed sections, whereas with colors and generations the gameplay came to a grinding halt for the platforming sections.

Then *shudder* Lost World, where they just abandoned speed altogether to try to mimic Super Mario Galaxy (Which is ironic because Sonic did the "orbiting planetoid" gimmick first way back in Sonic Adventure 2).

Wooooow, really? That's interesting, i don't think i've ever met someone with that opinion. My main problem with Unleashed was the pacing. You're having a great time in one of the great speed stages in the game and then BAM, Werehog happens and ruins everything LOL.

Generations is probably the fastest Sonic game to date once you actually learn every route (watch some) not to mention the godlike rival battles.

The thing with RE5 and RE6 is that they're not RE games lol. They were really good games from a gameplay stand point but that's about it. Leon and Ada's campaigns on RE6 were brilliant though.

I love President Evil 5 so much..... first President Evil game I ever played and it was with a Friend in splitscreen. I've bought and played any halfway decent President Evil game with Split Screen ever since.....

People really hate that.

Lol.... I played 4 after 5 because people kept raving on and on about how its the best President Evil ever....... I thought it was okay.... I'm not even going to bother with the previous games beyond that.... I know for sure they are not for me.

I especially liked The Lost in Nightmares DLC.... I'm guess Revelations 2 was an attempt to make the entire game like that one mission..... and it would have been totally awesome if it weren't for the ludicrous pixel hunting that was some how worse than anything from a hidden objects adventure game.....

Hence why President Evil 5 will always be my favourite.

Not really. not to hype myself but I'm really damn good at Sonic games, but even in Modern segments of Generations, everything suddenly stops to do some stop and hop Classic style platforming, for no particular reason.

With Unleashed, the werehog wasnt out of nowhere lol. You pick the stages, so you know its coming. Its true the daytime stages were SO much more fun, but werehog wasn't actually BAD by any means. If it were reskinned to be Knuckles everyone woulda loved it lol.

Yeah RE can be divided up between "Survival Horror" (1-3, Outbreak), and Action Horror (4-6, ORC).

Though i'd say Outbreak and ORC are the best of each. I just get bored out of my skull playing 1-6. Co op is what saved 5 adn 6, and why I'm mad at Revelations for not having co op despite being built around two characters.

also, 4 has just not aged well, at ALL. Tried to play it, but its a whole lotta meh.

Woooow, so much wow at this, you have a really unorthodox opinion on popular franchises. I don't really agree with you but i still respect your opinion.

Unleashed also had those platforming sections and if you want to get real deep into it, Unleashed came in 2008 while colors in 2010 so really the one guilty for those sections is Unleashed itself, and no the Werehog was just a bad concept just for Sonic to have another stupid transformation (a hedgehog turning into a werewolf? seriously?) the moment that "character" was introduced was the moment Unleashed stopped being a Sonic game lol.

Man i am at a loss for words on this one, RE4 hasn't aged well? No way man, not even by a long shot. Not only is it the best RE game to date, its one of the best games ever freaking made and Outbreak?? whaaat? you're saying that's better than RE Remake?
