The new engine shows proper hair shadows, the easiest way to see it is watching any high quality video with Leifang as one of the two fighters, and pay attention to the twirl when she bends or falls or juggled.

DOA6 uses proper real time shadow maps and self shadowing, DOA5/DOA5U/DOA5ULR didn't and used some tricks to emulate those effects. while the fake selfshadowing was quite convincing and high res, especially in DOA5LR, the fake shadow characters cast on the ground were awful, very crude approximations and already dated back when DOA5 vanilla launched.
By what we can already see the shadow maps, their precision and resolution seems to look quite good even on PS4 in DOA6. Huge improvement, one of the biggest graphical improvements from DOA5 to DOA6 actually.

I would say the biggest jumps are the more fluid animations, brighter and better looking characters and stages; but the shadows are nice too. :D
