Getting completely outplayed.... advice???

So I go into a random lobby and fight a few people. They are pretty good, we keep up with each other and win almost equally.... I then see were all in the F-D range. This is by no means their skill level so I go compare games with them and find they both played Dead or Alive 4 and both have a A rank like myself.

THEN a girl joins.... she is a E+ on this game so I play a match with her casually... round one I quickly find out I'm a dead man.... So I check her rank in DOA4 and find out she's an S after sending her a hate-filled message developed from my rage...

Ok I get they are higher skilled players but how do I compete with such players.... The people in tourneys are S ranks but it seems they are on the same level..... how do i get up there.

If you already know the basic of the game all you can really do is learn WHY you are losing? And adapt and learn from it. No one can really tell you how to get good at a game other than that. Do you understand your character pro and cons? How to use there best tools and when? And like I said before you sure you understand all the basics of the game itself?

Same with any other fighter. Practice spacing, learn all your strings, learn your frames, learn your opponent's strings and frames, mix up your game, practice, practice, practice. Play tons and tons of matches so you can learn to read opponents. Also, from personal experience, try not to rage after losing a few rounds to someone who is clearly better than you. You should be looking for people who are better than you, who can beat you, who can make you look absolutely clueless because those people are the reason you're doing all that stuff that was just mentioned up there.

1. Hold out of stun

2. Mix up with low holds to destory any throw/high attack attempts

3. ?????

4. Win match.

My advice is play like a scrub the first round to get a feel of their tendencies then play aggressively the next rounds.

Get the grade rank stigma out of your mind and treat everyone as though they were your toughest opponent.

The mental energy you spend gauging an opponent's skill by their grade rank is better used studying how the opponent actually plays against you.

The first thing your going to have to do thats tough as fuck is accept you going to get your ass kicked. I accept this for any new fighting game thats released and if you stick with it youll find any solid fighting game is worth it. Well that is if you end up liking how that particular fighting game plays. In other words just keep playing the game and enjoying it while at the same time try to implement new techniques/attacks to your game.

Dont feel like you need to learn everything all at once just make an effort to learn the game little by little. Also if your having trouble against a certain character try him or her even though you might hate that character lol. Once you learn those characters see what other players do to counter them when you use them online. One last thing i personally feel learning to use more than one character makes you better player.

More than anything dont get too discouraged fighting games im my opinion are very rewarding but have a higher learning curve than most other genres. If you really want to level up fast make some friends and play some lobby matches your going to level up faster that way then always playing against randoms.

This guy gets it.

At this very moment, I'm spending 3 months learning how to use the punch button properly, as opposed to mindlessly mash it until something happens. It's not easy, but once I learn how to use it, it'll be worth it. Then I can move on to the kick button, the hold button, and the throw button, respectively.

Would it blow your mind if I told you that you could actually combine the buttons for a different result?

I know how you feel man, i know how you feel...

I am getting absolutely creamed online with the exclusion of a few lucky wins & some fights that i just had to grind out to win. At this stage the sheer relief of actually winning a match feels immense. Best bet is to take these guys advice, grit your teeth & just keep at it mate.

I'm thinking of giving Jann Lee (my main) a rest, i feel i over use him sometimes, so i might jump back into training mode & learn a new character.

the best advice can give is learn your poke game, forgot the super hard moves and long combos. Watch how they play and react to your pokes. The faster you can pick up on there habits the better you will be. Think like its chess. You want to know what you can do 3-4 move before. Watch a high level UMvC3 game. Forget the supper long combos part. Before all that happens you see them jumping back and forth throwing things out waiting for the other to take the bait. The only diff is this happens muti time in DOA compared to 1 touch of death in UMvC lol.

Keved-its hard to tell who i main between Jann Lee and hataye lol. But its good to have another character 1 as a backup and 2 its a good refresher and it helps me see what im doing wrong with the other
