Something not enough people talk about is the fact that Ryu Hayabusa is essentially a Mary Sue. He's a collection of "cool ninja" tropes whose only flaw is that he's Just Too Awesome for everyone else to handle. He's never fit into any of the story (so badly that they had to shoehorn him into the Dimensions retcon), and exists solely to remind the other characters, especially the ninja characters, that they're not as cool as him. The DOA universe was so weak compared to Hayabusa that they had to insert a TENGU DEMON FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION to fight him, because a mere mortal boss fight would be beneath him.
“One: Ryu needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine.
Two: whenever Ryu’s not onscreen, all the other characters should be asking ‘Where’s Hayabusa?'”
