Helena and Lisa face-off in two rounds on new stage DEPTH

Team NINJA and Yohei Shimbori have released two matches of newly announced Helena Douglas against Lisa Hamilton. Helena is the CEO of DOATEC with Lisa being one of the chief scientists for the DOATEC's research and development division. Seems strange that Lisa seems to use the same fighting style as La Mariposa. Perhaps they know each other?

Below I've posted the two matches along with all of the screen shots released by Tecmo-Koei today. Enjoy

Lisa's tricky moves set her apart. She doesn't simply come straight at you, so if you're not used to her actions, you have no idea what to expect. She also has a lot of strikes with long reach, making her good at mid-range offense, but now she has moves that come from runs and runs that comes from other moves, so she is way more active this time around. Of course you can launch attacks straight from the run, but you can also do things like stop in the middle of the run, trying to bring out a sidestep or hold from your opponent, and then follow up the attack. Her real strength shines when used by a player who is good with this kind of psychological game or has good fighting technique.

Helena is an extremely technical character. We're trying to balance her to please the technical fighters who can appreciate the skill it takes to bring out the "real Helena." First off, we got rid of simple moves like PP2KP, changing her style to one focused on mastering a rich variety of moves. From there, we removed crouching status from P+K because I wanted to make her style more about evading highs by using Bokuho stance. And by working on the moves from Bokuho and from her back-turned stance and making a faster transition from Bokuho to back-turned stance, you will really see a difference in her strength between players who just pick her up and players who train hard with her. I also took another look at Pi Gua Quan itself, and sprinkled a few special moves from that style into her repetoire. She's really strong.

Got an official release this morning along with the Lisa and Helena images that details 16 player online tournament mode. Maybe worth another news post (Tournament mode info at bottom)

TEAM NINJA UNVEILS TWO NEW CHARACTERS,
ONLINE FEATURES,
AND VIDEO VIGNETTE FOR DEAD OR ALIVE 5

Today Team NINJA reveals two new contenders returning to the Dead or Alive fighting roster, as well as detailing a wealth of new features in the expanded online mode that awaits gamers in Dead or Alive 5, which launches on the Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3 on September 28, 2012. Both DOATEC leader Helena Douglas and former DOATEC scientist Lisa Hamilton return to the Dead or Alive franchise with new styles and deadlier techniques.

Helena Douglas, also known as “Fortune's Heiress,” is the current leader of the Dead or Alive Tournament Executive Committee (DOATEC) and the daughter of Fame Douglas, founder of DOATEC. As a famous opera singer and Pi Gua Quan martial artist, Helena’s refined elegance translates into a quick yet graceful fighting style that allows her to pull off smooth windmill-like combinations that overwhelm her opponents. After the apparent destruction of DOATEC after the last tournament, Helena has re-emerged to announce the reformed DOATEC and issue an open invitation to all potential competitors to the fifth Dead or Alive Tournament.

Lisa Hamilton, also known as “La Mariposa,” is a former scientist for DOATEC and an accomplished luchadora. Lisa’s unpredictable lucha libre style combines moves she learned while training with friend and fellow DOA competitor Tina Armstrong during high school and her own blend of high-flying kicks. Her unorthodox style makes her a difficult opponent to counter and defend against effectively. Little is known as to why Lisa has returned to the fifth DOA Tournament, but the reemergence DOATEC has once again brought “La Mariposa” back into action.

It’s a slow descent as Helena and Lisa trade blows in an inescapable elevator heading straight for the bottom of the ocean in this aptly named stage - Depth. Surrounded by an ominous view of the vast sea, fighters must be wary of the danger lurking in the elevator panels, which if damaged could greatly affect the integrity of their makeshift battle arena. As the elevator is wracked with destruction, it speeds up and spews out dangerous fragments that become deadly projectiles which players can use to their strategic advantage in combat.

Dead or Alive 5 includes a wealth of new online features that offer players the best online experience of any previous Dead or Alive game to date. Up to 16-player online tournaments will allow combatants to set up their own bracket-style tournaments, while the fighter list allows players to view opponents’ battle records and call them out to fight at anytime. The online dojo allows players to practice with others in training mode, while the spectator feature allows players to chat while watching online battles. Players can also rock bragging rights by posting titles and sharing fighting records with friends on Facebook.

Might this affect gravity and influence juggles? That could be interesting.

Wow. That loop on the music gets old quick.
People should realize how important it is to make good stage music (if not character themes). It sets the whole ambiance.
Its repetitive and weak. Like this stage.

The music after the danger zone is activated, yes. Complete generic garbage, as with the rest of the music in DOA5. Before the danger zone? <3 Alpha-152's theme sooo much.

Certainly better than any DOA5 music.
The only DOA5 music I found slightly (and I mean slightly) appealing was in this trailer.

Looks fabulous. Helena, as always, looks like a hell of a lot of fun to play.

Keep the footage coming Mr. Wah! :)

Actually I like a little of the DOA5 music. The cherry blossom stage has a nice tune fitting for a showdown. Flow sounds good before the raft starts moving and when you're in the jungle, the jungle theme has a very calming ambient feel but it's easy to focus on the match and it doesn't get in the way nor does it feel boring.

My favorite theme so far is probably the first part of Scramble (ONLY the first part), and the Ice stage theme is alright. As for everything else though? Yeah, crap.
