PS3 Update 4.45, DO NOT UPDATE!

The PS3 4.45 update was made available today (to disable Trophy popups in games). Your PS3 may ask you to update your console.

DO NOT ACCEPT IT!

Most people who have downloaded the update have come across a crippling problem, the PS3 will not proceed past the "Welcome Ribbon" and into the XMB. This seems to currently affect people who have upgraded or changed their HDD.

Sony has already pulled the update offline, meaning you shouldn't be able to access it, but in the off chance that your PS3 asks you to make the update do yourself a favor and do not accept the update until further notice.

For those of you who have already gotten the update and are affected by this issue, I am sorry for your PS3's sudden incapacitation.

UPDATE: Sony will be releasing a non-bricking update next Thursday along with instructions for console owners that were bricked on how to unbrick their consoles.

I believe it was causing an issue to PS3s with 500gb hdds.

Too bad that bricking due to firmware updates is not covered under their warranty - if your warranty was still valid otherwise.

I just bought a new PS3 and it was a 500gb model. I updated immediately as it was available as it was a requirement to play my Last of Us online at the time.

So far it has luckily not bricked. If I had two PS3's brick over the course of one week, I would have to kill somebody.

I have an old model PS3 that I upgraded to 500GBs. Haven't done anything online on it recently to even be aware of a new update.

Dodged a bullet by accident? lol

I recently got a 500GB super slim PS3 just last week to replace my broken fat PS3. I have my updates set to manual and will not update unless necessary and is true that this issue is bricking systems or just causing the console to freeze?

They were freezing during the boot process making your ps3 unable to do anything. Basically bricked.

Sony appears to have found a way to fix consoles that have been affected by the update. The new update (and help on fixing consoles) for 4.45 will be available next Thursday and Sony will provide instructions for console owners that were bricked with the previous 4.45 update.

In other news the "v" key on my USB keyboard is acting up again. Many right-clicks were made in this post.
