NOD Subway. . .Yawbus Don.
*Sigh*
If there was ever a single thing you could say about NOD Subway it’s that he had a profound belief in his abilities. Considering that the character his play style was built around was at or near the bottom of every Dead or Alive 4 tier list ever publihed; Where that fortitude stemmed from I had no idea - until this very week. Pulled from the annals of yesteryear comes a character guide authored by Subway more than a 12 months back and republished, by our own Tengu savant, Forlorn Penguin.
By Subways own admission he had doubts about the characters viability: He muses “[As a Tengu player] You are below everyone, Period. Tengu is the least respected character in the Dead or Alive series”, “You have to understand that [As Tengu] will never be in control, you are always at the disadvantage and nothing is certain.”
Yet sandwiched between numerous caveats; and disclaimers; and constant reminders that you’re heading down a dark lonely path, is a guide that is all at once informative, humorous, heartfelt and painful. You really get the sense that this project was the culmination of a 7 year trudge through an endless abyss of disappointment. To choose a path that arduous and to walk it with the amount of self-assuredness that he showcased was admirable – to see what he created as a result is incredible.
So, even though for all his efforts he was never quite able to elevate Tengu past that very bottom rung on the ladder, he was able to create a living recollection and testament to his avatar that should be an example to everyone who strives to interpret and advance the profile of any character in this game.
