I'm new to the game and I'm having a friend who knows how to play teach me. I asked him if I do Kasumi's :4::H+K: to him can he hold it and he said yes. So we tried it and he countered it. I read the Kasumi guide in prima guides and it said :4::H+K: causes an unholdable sit-down stun, but I don't know what that means. So can anyone tell me. =D

Unholdable as in you can't instantly hold out of it, you have to slow escape to hold out of it. Of course there are some attacks that are guaranteed out of the sit down stun.

In that specific stun, you can hold out of it after a long while, but you can't actually stagger escape.

:6::6::K::K: is an example of an attack that puts an opponent into a sit-down stun that prevents them from holding until the stun has ended. This stun is stagger escape-able.

What is a stagger escape? And so :4::H+K: for Kasumi isn't stagger escapable but holdable at later frames?

The move causes a sit down stun that is unholdable in a sit down stun state. It doesn't really give you any guaranteed unless it's off a counter hit where it gives you far more frame advantage and you can follow up with something without worrying about being counter hold. The move is best used as a counter hit.

Can you give me an example combo with Kasumi with :4::H+K: thats guaranteed starting with counterhit?

After a successful sit down stun(off counter hit) you can follow up with her :3::H+K: or :3::P+K:, :K: for some good launchers. I've been in the hospital for a few days so I haven't got to mess around with her as much as I like so if I was you I would just go into training mode and experiment. I hope this helps, though.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I'm in training mode as I type this. Hope you're doing fine after coming out from the hospital, unless you were there for someone else.

Stagger escaping, sometimes called slow escaping, is when you mash directions on the d-pad/arcade stick while you are in critical stun. For many (but not all) critical stuns, this will speed up the stun and allow you to recover faster than without mashing multiple directions. Most players just do circles on the d-pad/stick, but I personally do diagonals from Up-left to Down-right as it hits all four directions.

For further terminology questions, I recommend you take a look over the terminology list in our Wiki: http://www.freestepdodge.com/wiki/dead-or-alive-terminology/

Thank you very much. I'll look at that list from now on.

Well I hope you're well then.=D Do you know what slow escaping is?

Yeah. Slow escaping helps you lessen the time you are stunned using the dpad depending on how fast you are with it. I think it only works on normal/critical stuns, though. Doesn't work on critical burst, limbo, feint, sit down or stumble stun. It's the only other option if you don't want to take a chance with getting punished by using holds while in a stun state.

Ahhhhh I see, so if I'm too scared to hold I should do this? Thank you very much. This helps a lot. Probably should do this until I learn the DoA characters' moves and properties.
