Would anyone like a DOA style weapons based fighter?

While I was looking at threads talking about which guest character would and wouldn't fit because they use weapons I got to thinking what if Team Ninja did a weapon based fighter. Its not like there are any other weapons based fighting game series still going that I can think of aside from Soul Calibur.

If they did make one I'd like to see something take place in modern day. Stages would be like DOA with transitions and interactives. It would feature mechanics you would expect from a weapons fighter like various parries, weapon locks, blade clashes, etc..

Is this something anyone else would be interested in and what kind of stuff would you like to see in it?

If they did it would make more sense to find a way to adapt Ninja Gaiden to a 1 vs 1. If they ever did though like holy fuck you're talking constant split second decisions.

essentially we need a game based around Ryu fighting his dopplegangers.

I was about to suggest an idea like that but instead of Ryu fighting his doubles, just replace them with the doa cast and maybe add some original weapon focused fighters.

What weapons would each character get though? I'm imagining the wrestlers get steel chairs and its a weird image...

I decided to take a stab at arming the DOA cast. Some of my choices have obvious reasons while others are just based on personal preferences or I couldn't think.of anything better.

Alpha - Double Beam Sabers
Ayane - her NG dual knives/short swords
Bass - sledgehammer
Bayman - combat knife
Brad Wong - hook swords
Christie - scythe
Ein - zweihander
Eliot - long sword and shield
Gen Fu - falchion
Hayabusa - his Dragon Sword
Hayate - katana using sword drawing style
Helena - rapier
Hitomi - spear
Honoka - staff
Jann Lee - nunchucks
Kasumi - wakizashi
Kokoro - 3 sectioned staff
La Mariposa - punching daggers
Leifang - Chinese long sword
Leon - machete
Marie Rose - bladed claws
Mila - tonfa
Momiji - her NG naginata
Nyotengu - bladed fan
Phase 4 - kusarigama
Rachel - her NG warhammer
Raidou - nodachi
Rig - double hand axes
Tina - barbwire baseball bat
Zack - retractable tentacle whips (like Omega Red from X-Men COTA or Takeda from MKX)

Some of these don't really make sense for certain characters but you won me over with Tina having a barbwire bat.

I don't see why a "DOA style, weapon-based fighter" would necessarily have to have the cast of DOA. With that description, it comes off to me as more of a standalone game of its own, but with very similar elements to DOA's system, just that all the characters would be using weapon-based arts. I would imagine that it would feature a unique cast.

If it did include DOA characters though, I'd definitely want to see Bankotsubo included and finally fighting with his staff from DOA2.

To answer the question though, I can't say I particularly want such a game to exist, but were it to be made, I might try it.

Adding weapon specific mechanics would mean that the game wouldn't be "DOA-style", since those mechanics aren't in DOA.

You got a point there. I guess I just would like to see a couple more weapons based fighting games that aren't Soul Calibur pop up. Of course I'd also really love to hear Soul Calibur 6 announced as well.
