Good point. I'd never considered it that way...I honestly can't believe I never considered doing that before! That's some serious tech right there if that works every time...

I know, right?

The timing is....messy, I wouldn't rely on it, been doing it mostly on reflex, though im trying to pinpoint the timing. So far, narrowed it down to the idea that I gotta hit them just as they are reaching me. The gut punch cb is the same way, but its faster so easier to hit them with. Though i think only headbutt works on dragon kick because it hits like an overhead while gutpunch is mid.

Sorry I do things reflexively, so hard to explain. Headbutts the hardest to time. Just trying to say its not easy to learn the timing, its just muscle memory for me so hard to say how im doing it.

I bet it looks incredible when it hits though. When you say headbutt, are you talking about his jumping headbutt or standing?

Standing, though I guess the jumping should work too, though way too much windup to really work by reflex.

Okay you guys saying you never thought of it made me worry it onky happened as a fluke for me so I'm using the record option on training for the first time to check.

So far I know the headbutt works on the first half of the move at least. As in up to where he's actually in the air, but before he's in full dragon kick stance in midair. You hit him, it puts him back into standing stun and he falls down.

Now I'm testing headbutt on fully formed dragon kick. I swear on my life id been pulling it off, but its been reflexive. It's like suddenly thinking about how to walk while you are walking: I'm screwing up.

...yep, just headbutted him out of it. He falls down like he bounced off a wall. Seems the only point it beats the headbutt is the exact moment he gets into the midair dragon kick pose. Before he gets in it, and after he gets the pose, hes free to headbutts. Only right as the leg straightens is it invincible. Though even that may just be me. not finding the timing yet.

Wait, no, just found timing for that too. So long as Leons head is alreay crashing down as jann flies at him, it beats it. But not if Leons head is still rearing back or just starting to headbutt.
S
till hitting me once in a while, cant tell if its my timing or that second of invuln.

Next time I'm in the lab with Leon, I'll have to get this into my repertoire as it's a pretty good piece of tech to know, plus it'll look bitchin' as hell.

As cool as the headbutt vs. dragon kick sounds ... honestly, if you can react with a head butt, you have time to react with a crouch into his half-circle throw. That's more reliable, works 100% of the time, and is guaranteed damage without playing a stun game.

But nowhere near as cool or satisfying.

Honestly, I rarely ever do a standing desert falcon. At least online. I don't trust half circle motions to come out right, so I just do it.to airborne opponents.

Not like I'm losing anything. Dervish throw, neck lift, and ARM grenade are equivalent.

Sides, is rather not turn Leon into Zangief, yak.ow, just spamming one grab all the time. I see him more as an Alex. Versatile power attacks and multiple good grapples.

You're missing out on so much damage if you avoid his desert falcon.

I don't avoid it, I just dont spam the standing version. I do it from launchers all the time and do standing version to abuse environments at certain points.

You cant spam it all the time, its his slowest throw.. so if you get the chance to pull it off for his max throw damage, then GOD DAMNIT PULL IT OFF !

Meh. Only if i absolutely need to to win. Otherwise I see it enough off juggles, I prefer other throws from standing, or lows to set up his mount.

It's just not my favored standing grapple, is all. Not like I'm not using it, after all.

Rundown of some of my favorite (and very useful) moves (spammed like a motherfucker on and offline):

Ryu: Izuna Drop (semi-circle 12 frame combo throw)
Leon: Desert Falcon (semi-circle 12 frame throw)
Lisa: Deja Vu (semi-circle 12 frame combo throw)
Rig: Launcher throw (semi-circle 12 frame throw)

Man, I can't imagine not using them. They're the best moves in the game, lol

And I think Desert Falcon is actually 11 frames (unless that was changed in DOA5U). You're missing out if you're not using 41236T with Leon (and God forbid Hayabusa ).

I just can't bring myself to spam. It goes against every fiber of my being.

Its not spamming when its very difficult to find a situation that makes it guaranteed ... you NEED that damage ..

Also, if you don't play to win then you're not playing. >__>

Standing Desert Falcon is pretty easy to pull off, especially because people are so counter-reliant. You can do so much damage for just scaring them. I love it. It's one of the most satisfying reasons for playing Leon!
