DOA5 E3 Version Q&A

Exactly. The game is already shaping up to be much better than DOA4. There will be online for a while. But we want even more. We want a huge Competitive scene because it will bring in people of all skill levels to the game. A more solid game will bring in high level and casual players alike.

Imagine seeing this game on streams regularly. Imagine this game actually being talked about throughout the fighting community. It would just be great if DOA could actually be hugely popular.

im casual and its a day one buy for me. why cant this game have casual fans? cause you seem to be implying they don't exist.

You're a fan(atic) of the series which is why you're buying on Day 1. I would suspect that by the statement I quoted that you don't travel around to competitive tournaments which is fine. I hate giving labels to people as it's just plain stupid, but if I had to label you based on the quote above I'd just simply say you're a non-competitive fan. That's not to say you aren't competitive when playing the game, just that you aren't one who travels around for competitions.

What I was referring to by the term Casual Gamer is that of a gamer who doesn't already know of the series, does not read up on forums or blogs before the game comes out, but instead is meandering through the game store or section of a store looking to see what to buy and bases their decision on the box design and price. I don't believe you fall into that category.

I don't think DOA5 will have a "huge" competitive scene. I think it's too late in the development cycle and there's too much opposition to get the changes necessary to see a huge scene. However, I think there's plenty of time to get a "satisfactory" scene. I'm thinking more along the lines of MK9, pulling in 50-100 players at most majors, and 300 at Evo (it's second year).

I think in order to reach a "huge" competitive scene, some big changes would have to be made. I don't think Team Ninja is willing to make those changes, and I'm okay with that. If the game is at least decent and we can get 50+ player tournaments regularly, with 200+ at Evo, IPL and/or MLG... I'll be happy.

This is pretty much how I feel. It doesn't have to bring in like SUPER AMAZING numbers but I just want more of a tournament scene/life for us this time around.

Yeah, Huge scene would be reaching for too much, but like you said, "Satisfactory" would be just great. Regular tournaments would mean it's doing well for itself, and we could then expect DOA6 to do well. If TN sees that the changes that FSD wants bring in bigger crowds, then they'd be happy to hear from this site again on input.

To even get those kinds of numbers, the developer needs to commit to gameplay changes from the very start. While Team Ninja has changed and improved DOA5 in a few areas, they've been very reluctant to make some of the serious changes we've been discussing for years that need to happen for the game to be taken seriously as a fighter. You don't need to be told that, clearly, I'm just reiterating for the sake of the forum. I don't feel that Shimbori will be visited by three ghosts, have a revelation and we'll suddenly see the gameplay completely turn around sometime in these next two months. Maybe DOA6 will turn out to be the game we want...

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but are lows no longer critical in water? In a few matches I've seen lows thrown and it has the effect of a blow on a dry surface.

Lows are still critical in water. That said it's always possible that particular critical stun itself was changed for that particular low, meaning water possibly had nothing to do with it.

If you give me a video with a timestamp I can likely tell you what's going on.

Not sure where to put this but I found some DOA5 footage from the Japan Expo in Paris:D

You can see one of Akira's low throws @ 0:05 in this video below.

You can see some of Kokoro's new weird stance(or fakeout?) and you can see Christie use her forward punch string into a sidestep into a launch which is pretty cool in the video below.

From E3 alone he wasn't bad. Had more sitdown stuns than any other character by far. The question now is whether or not they nerf the unholdable stuns.

Well, that doesn't say much about his grabs, which were horribly nerfed. So far, all I got from your demo analysis is that he's a slow power striker.

The only conclusion I can reach for why they made his Potemkin buster a charge grab was because they just didn't want him to be good. Why change his 6 grab to a 66 grab? Because Itagaki didn't like the idea of Bass pressuring someone like Hitomi. Why get rid of launching 4 grab? Because from TN's viewpoint, Wrestlers shouldn't be able to do damaging combos.

Now, if I could cancel the charge, that would've been something. Not in the right direction, but something that would show that they're aware of these shitty mechanics.

Your right, think about it..... Maybe they didn't finish his model? He had an Ingame camera didn't he? That would be their excuse as to say they wanted to keep Bayman and Leon's movesets as far from each other as possible, so they delayed making his model, Or he is just an unlockable character, hence why he isnt in the character code... ;)

Unlockable characters do not get removed from the code of all things.

"Hey, I want this type of object/effect in this game."
"Well, why don't we wait till the last few months to write a class for that. Great idea, huh?"

Gameobjects especially aren't just added in the last few weeks. If you want it there, you add it there from earlier on. It's just plain backwards thinking to add something in the last few weeks.

Allow me to give some insight into how things potentially work at this moment as far as combos go....

1p(sit down) 3k(sit down) 7p+k (cb) 33p (launch) 63214f+p (maximum height air throw).

I may be mistaken on if its 3k or not, but I do remember it was a relatively safe mid kick that caused it. Even so, you can see where im going with this. He's going to have that kind of pressure where you're actually worried about getting hit with a low as much as with a mid.

I think in time people will start using his strike juggle potential more as well, because like tina and bayman any strike he does that slams a person into the ground guarantees a ground throw followup which will let him maintain pressure.

His 8k was also the re-launcher kick from DOA 3.1 rather then big unsafe knee launcher from DOA 4. Also a sign of some good juggle potential coming from him.

As far as grabs go, he was altered a bit but didn't have as much as was shown in the rig trailer when I played him (his air toss from the fully charged OH was not available). I did notice his chargeup offensive hold received a rather beefy boost to its overall reach, and i was able to catch drdogg as he was trying to backdash away several times. And... lets see what can I say about his throws? He received the same boosts that all the grapplers did, so his multi-part throws are very viable now. It will be easier for him to connect them in their entirety, and even if its broken he is left at +5 and can continue fucking with people. Could even troll with a regular throw afterwards and, if you wanna be a dick, a great way to fuck with people who buffer throw escapes instead of doing them on reaction is to then mix it up with a high-counter launcher when you've got them conditioned.

It's being explained several times by Rikuto why Bayman is so great but I've seen mentions of Tina being good as well but nothing specific. Can I get some gameplay reasons as of why Tina is good¿

Also, which would be their most notable differences¿ The ones that would make some grappler players choose Bayman over Tina and viceversa. (you can add Bass to the formula if you have enough knowledge about him).
