DOA5LR PC-version information collection

Alright PC gurus, I need some tips.

I may either upgrade to a new desktop or laptop, and I saw some of you mention installing DOA5LR on various hardware. I'm not going to spend a ton of money on a gaming rig, so I'm looking to see if it's even possible to run DOA with reasonable settings even on a laptop. I'm looking potentially at any number i7's with 8-12 GB's of RAM, but the kicker is likely the shared/dedicated video card. Most have either Intel HD4400/5500 shared or NVidia 840M dedicated. What kind of performance might I expect with stats like that? Since I saw more talk about the processor, I'd like to know how much the lack of a decent gpu will kill the experience.

This game is much more GPU heavy than CPU. You can get by with a lower end PC and toss a decent GPU in. That's what I did with my main PC. Decent computer from Best Buy, then doubled the RAM, put in a better PSU and tossed in a GTX 960.

My 3 year old laptop can handle it at 1080p60, but it was custom built (3.2ghz i7 + gtx with 2gb gddr5). If you MUST have a laptop I recommend you build a Sager or Clevo at sites like xoticpc. Otherwise I'd recommend building a mini-ITX rig. You can cram a lot of juice into a small case these days

Make sure it has an Nvidia or Ati graphics chipset, Intel GMA simply will not cut it. My laptop with a GMA HD just has the game crashes.

Although I much more highly recommend a desktop as they are much easier to upgrade and add stuff to later, laptops while mobile will not have the same expandability.

My laptop just has an Intel gma hd and the game.exe just crashes. Is there any tweak I can apply to make it work

Your earlier mention of this was why I thought I might attempt a laptop for now. I did find an i7/ GTX 850M with an overkill amount of RAM on sale through HP. I also saw a vid on youtube showing it running sufficiently with the 850M, so now I just have to wait for it to get here, so I can test it.

Does the config work from Steam?

No matter how I set it, the game.exe just crashes when I go to launch the game. On that laptop atleast, works fine on my much more powerful desktop.

When I get home tonight I will check if there is a newer GMA HD driver. It was actually pretty hard to find the working driver as when I received this computer it did not have a hard drive since the previous one had gone bad the the original owner did not want to spend money to replace it.

Looks like the driver version for the GMA that intel has is 15 where as the version Gateway offers for this computer is version 8. Hopefully the new version will work with this first gen i5 and GMA HD. I will report back later.

Just tried the latest version of the GMA HD graphics driver, also tried updating Direct X again just in case. game.exe still just crashes, so this pretty much proves that DOA5LR will not run on Intel GMA HD. Perhaps the latest chips but not this one.

Sigh, sadly my DoA5LR copy suddenly stopped working without apparent reason: the files exe ("game.exe" and startup_setting.exe") don't give any outcome by clicking directly on them from the folder, while from Steam I can config the game, but when I try to make start it the game prepare the launch but then nothing happens.

Making some researches online I read that problems like these happen often with Steam games (apparently if you are using Win7 64 bit?), so maybe someone of you already encountered them and know what to do for fixing it? I already tried to delete and reinstall the game, more I've also checked the integrity of the files' cache from the Steam app.

I used mods through umod but never worked on the actual files of the game extracting or modifying them.
