All I'm going to say on this is that if you guys are so gung ho on justifying a purchase with so much barebones content and telling people to wait months for DLC and telling people to quit bitching...and I see you complaining about the DLC outfits on DOA5LR or complaining on any other fighting game for not having features at launch...

You best believe I will be on you guys like no other, just letting you know that now.

I would tell them:
"Get a simple local player versus CPU mode in the game at release!" That's the most basic fighting game mode of all time and is in 99.9% of all fighters...except Street Fighter 5. I really doubt the implementation would have cost them much time. Surely not months.

its already in the game. Go to practice mode and set your opponent to "no regen" there's your vs CPU match.

It is not! It's laughable and more and more frustrating (it really is! D: ) that so many don't get this, even if there are already hundreds of people in different forums explaining again and again hat versus CPU in Training is no replacement for a real Versus CPU mode, where you can play real matches, including character introductions and an actual "You Win!" or "You Lose!" screen at the end of a match. Would you want to play online without any of this?

I'll be straight up: while I understand the dynamic of what Capcom is trying to accomplish, releasing a base product with this little content is inexcusable.

First off, other companies made decently good fighters while still delivering on single player so that whole "Capcom put the most focus on multiplayer" doesn't cut it. And it's not like they did that amazing of a job there either. No lobbies, no spectator, no trials, no challenges, better hit up Youtube or SRK to learn about the game. Also, I think people are overestimating the attention span of the average fan of narratives and lore. You know, the types that latch on to whatever the flavor of the month is. You really think those people are gonna get this game at it's current state? Or wait months for it to show up?

Actually yes, because the box says Street Fighter and Capcom. I mean, what other fighters exist besides Mortal Kombat and Smash?

One may say they're not important, and their value is a bit overstated in the greater scheme of things. I don't disagree entirely. However, these are the types of people reviewers have in mind (some of them are this themselves). They are the reason the game's getting middling scores rather than the scores it would get on a multiplayer level alone. Everything I'm saying here isn't a big deal though since 7 is good enough. Capcom should consider themselves fortunate, because any smaller game would get less leeway and get a dreaded average of 6 or 5 which basically equates to "don't touch this piece of shit."

I'm glad people are panning the barebones nature of the base game because, while I'm still adjusting to it, I really detest this "patch later" mentality that's become the norm. And while Capcom is doing it better than most other companies as it pertains to this game (I mean, they are giving you the content for free mostly), it comes across to me as negligent to say "well this part isn't all that important, we'll just include it x weeks after launch." Couldn't do that back then.

I understand that ultimately, more money might indeed be in the competitive scene for already stated reasons. And competitive gaming's bigger than it's ever been, and still growing. I'm glad Capcom made that a priority, because fighting games are fun. But as a corporation, I'd like to think that their goal is to reach the widest audience possible, and releasing games in this state sure as hell doesn't help any.

I honestly agree with @Niitris way more than it should be possible.

Capcom seriously should have released a tournament edition that costed 30$ or so and made buying everything else 30$...and then have the game be released at June for 60$. Would have made far better sense atleast in the perspective of rushing the game for tourney players.

Otherwise all this rushing the game straight out of the door is going to do is encourage other developers to do the exact same stupid mindset which can easily lead to disastrous consequences in the future.

KI isn't offering the rest of their stuff for free though, so you're comparing apples to oranges and criticizing the one with the better deal.

KI is selling you piece meal
Arcsystem is reselling you the same game many times
MKX is just now getting decent multiplayer even if it had good single player.

how is that any better than what SFV is doing?

Incorrect. That $20 was for all of the content, you just got your downloads later. Not dissimilar from what SFV is doing at the $60 price point AND you didn't have to do anything to 'earn' the DLC later. All three Seasons of KI will come to a grand total of $60 for the non-premium content (no classic games, basically, which don't count anyway) and cover a much greater breadth of content than SFV will. You only get the new content for free if you earn it in SFV, remember.

and you only get the new content in KI if you pay up. $80 dollars for everything in season 2 for 17 characters

Actually, you are pretty wrong there in terms of both games.

KI has a F2P version which no matter how much you buy will ALWAYS end in buying the full game anyway(as the costs reduce themselves each time). This is also helping the fact that you can still easily buy the entire S2 base pack itself and get access to all the characters the second they come out as well(meaning only for F2P would you have to pay).

As for MKX, everyone loves complaining about the netcode but funny enough, did that really stop people from playing the game still? And peoples' point about them not caring about their Netcode goes in smoke because even if it's a beta for Injustice 2, it still shows that they are learning from their mistakes and won't have bad netcode for it, ironically making the point against it moot and SFV's more glaring.

And again, the stuff coming for "free" does nothing to suddenly make it better. It's still coming in so horrifically barebones that it can be compared to MvC3 and UMvC3, especially the latter considering how rushed it is. It should not be celebrated, it should be crucified for the stupidity of rushing the game to this extent.
I can handle the True Story Mode being until June as long as they make it far better than the poor excuse of a prologue but hiding even the most basic features like they did with MvC3(no Spectator Mode, no 8 man lobby) is just absolutely ridiculous.

Those are Ultra editions of each season and include KI Classic and KI2 Classic. The $20 versions of each have all of the characters, stages, and story content. If you're going to argue with me, do some research.

their "story content" is no better than the crap in SFV, ive seen it. it's literally just in game stills that were done by Maximillion and barely has any semblance of a plot.

while yes all that is included the fluff is not and in the end all of that plus season 3 is going to up costing around 100 dollars if you try to get EVERYTHING.

SFV cost and potential free stuff includes the fluff.

Atleast Killer Instinct had a consistent plot even before the reboot if you want to use that logic. Still better than Street Fighter's non existent, all over the place plot.
It doesn't help your case that the Prologue for SFV looks to be extremely subpar, so how is the Cinematic Story Mode is going to fare?

Or again, if you try to get what is basically the CE...because again, all you would pay is 80$ if you bought from KI S1 to S3...that's still not even remotely that much compared to say Arc-Sys.

SFV cost and potential free stuff includes the fluff.
"And"? So that makes up for the horrible lackluster release people are somehow supposed to be satisfied for until June for the complete game?

I never said it was insanely great quality but it's definitely not just stills. Look, I'm not going to argue with you. The three Seasons together cost $60 unless something massive changes next month with the release of the third. If you want to throw in the everything argument, I'll count the special edition of SFV and we'll call it even at $100. On top of that, KI Season 1 (the Ultra version WITH that extra content) was given away free earlier this year making it even more accessible to everyone. And best believe Capcom will have some cosmetic nonsense that comes out at a rate that makes it impossible to buy all of it and the characters with Fight Money. It's a free to play model at a premium price point and it's extremely annoying.

I think I'll quite like the combat in SFV and enjoyed what I played in the beta. That's why I'm buying the game. But let's none of us pretend that what they're doing is in any way a decent value. The only thing I give them kudos on is the ability to earn content for free. I think that's a model that more games should adopt. I think it's incredibly pro-consumer. But the dearth of launch content? The opposite, and they're more or less springing this on us the day before launch with the last second embargo lift.

KI is a great value and a solid model. SFV is a great game with a progressive content earning model and a severe lack of launch content. Don't compare them.

look at the end of the day im not criticizing MKX or KI(arksystem hell yes) but the way they're doing things isnt perfect and neither is SFV, its different. and while some people may believe 60$ is too much they are welcome to wait until it is for them or buy it used later.

I feel Capcom should have delayed the game's release until they could at least get an arcade mode and 1p vs mode in. But in addition to that they should have opened up the pre-order beta and upgraded it to what they are releasing now and leave it open until SF5 actually releases. Also let people who didn't pre-order pay into it for a small fee (I'm thinking no more than $10 since it will be taken away once the game releases). This way people could still play the game early and the Capcom tournaments could still go ahead on schedule. You would still have some people pissed about the delay but I don't think it would be as bad as what we have now and they wouldn't have review sites giving them low scores for missing 1p content. Though I suspect pressure from Sony would have made this difficult to actually do, I think it would have been a little better for the game's reputation as well as Capcom's.

With all that said, this whole thing will probably be mostly forgotten if they patch in the 1p content in a timely manner which I believe is already planned.
