This except I think it's something exclusive to the DOA community (Almost makes me want to do another write up . . .)
But anyway let's see, I think DOA players (a lot of them ) just DON'T play anything offline. DOA2 was he last arcade release so unlike SF it doesn't have a fanbase that is use to up " close and personal ".
Secondly, I think people are afraid of some stigma they may incur from others ex:
Question:
" You play that game where all the girls got big breastessess ?!"
Answer:
" Yeah, and the girls in your game
don't have big breasts?! "
Reply:
" Pfft, whatever that games easy mode, you just spam counters to win . . ."
Reply:
" Really, 1st to 5 $10 right here, right now, easy money right? "
Reply:
. . .
At this point they should back off, cuz seriously people if your worried that people think your game is " creepy " than I have a news flash people . . .
20 years ago and even still to this day, you tell a non gamer your going somewhere to compete in Halo or Call Of Duty they might think your some kind of freak. And you know what?
WHO CARES WHAT STRANGERS THINK ABOUT YOU?
For the most part with DOA I HAVE taken what some would view as insults from people in the FGC but moreso from people ONLINE.
OFFLINE I've had confrontations like the above posted scenario from people who think cuz they use a "manly" character in X fighting this by default makes them the Alpha GEEK. Please.
I play DOA cuz I LIKE DOA.
I use female characters cuz a majority of the time they suit my playstyle (fast, evasive, sneaky, etc) and because I am a heterosexual male between the ages of 16-40
That being said here in Massachusetts I WAS the DOA community until I met Dr. Teeth, OFFLINE at a fighting game venue that catered to SF/Marvel thanks to FSD.
Moving on we played DOA4 offline as it was the easiest DOA to get a hold of at these events. We found other players who liked DOA.
DOA 3.1 began getting played, we found more players.
DOA5 came out we found more players.
We are STILL finding players, players that Teeth and I will prepare for NEC and onwards.
If people can't attend OFFLINE events, fine support us in the streams.
But if your that individual who's afraid of what others may think of you, your letting down YOUR community.
This past weekend I went out to an offline tourney where DOA was not announced and brought a set up and DOA5.
I played in the TTT2 tourney and then asked if anyone wanted to enter a DOA5 tourney.
I found seven people including our own MCPeanuts.
I think it's safe to say that Peanuts and myself were the most skilled players, but I took the time to share my strategy guide, find out who's on Xbox Live/PSN, and explain the importance of string canceling if your going to main Hitomi.
This is how an OFFLINE COMMUNITY WORKS.
