If DOA is easy to pick up, what are the harder fighting games? Tekken? VF? SF? KOF?...Smash? :p Jun 21, 2018 at 2:27 AM

Tekken doesn't provide the frame data in game, so it doesn't come into play as much as DOA or VF with simple 112 or 22, etc. punishes being sufficient until you get to -15+ for launch punishes. Knowing which moves are + on block for your character or the opponent's character is important (such as Drag's WR 2 for instance) along with other similar frame traps.

In DOA you need to know the speed of an opponent character's pokes (which aren't normalized to i10 jabs & i13 elbows/mid punches), the frames on block (+, -, punishable by i5/7/10/12 or strike punishable), amount of advantage/disadvantage on NH, CH/stun, how slow escapable the stun advantage is, how far into the stun threshold you are, etc.

I personally found managing frames easier in Tekken 7 (Chicken is pretty cool!). Though wish Tekken had a proper in-game Move Details like DOA or VF.

How many hours of practice do you think it takes to master a character's moveset?

I wouldn't know.... theres not a single character In my team that has all their moves Utilized....

I usually just practice the common stuff.

        @Lulu
I use it when I want to close the space in between myself and my opponent, but want to retain the control of a normal dash/quick advance, with the speed of running (more or less, anyway) without halting momentum.

@Force_of_Nature Her moves are insanely unsafe, and her jelly body, for whatever reason, makes the recovery cycles pop out. I just waited on my friends to throw one of her strings, I would block, stun and launch. Other times I would I would use (Honoka's) 6T and begin that loop. xD

All characters are capable of the types of stuns that lead to guarantees, right? It would be funny if only certain characters could perform a lift stun, for example.

Thats the one I'm using now (The Madcatz one)...

For DoA its unnecessary.... infact the DS4's D-Pad may actually be better I hear (never used one myself)...

Its great for 2D Fighting Games that have no lasting appeal beyond their execution...

That being said... it is rather large... because they decided to keep both the Touch Pad and Analogue Stick.

Finally know what you mean about playing online. Dropped a juggle and possible win opportunity due to lag. Played the DOA stage vs. Pai, did a bounce with Honoka's 9K after they mid-held in response to my previous attack, tried to follow up with 66P+K * P+K just inches away from the electric ropes, fucking missed the juggle. Would have won with the amount of health my opponent had. :(

        LoL... it sucks right...

Luckily the developers do allow you to simulate the lag... and you can practice with the lag and still do well...

        I tried it...
First of all and In my case specifically...there's no setting for the amount of actual lag I experience.... I have entire seconds worth of lag....

        And secondly...
It kinda limits your character choice.... since some characters have moves that require precise timing, and that lag can throw your timing off...

Still though... its nice Team Ninja allow you to practice with lag...

Believe me, I came close. I was upset at losing my wallet and it's contents, but then I remembered there was nothing in there that can't be replaced. Plus, the assailant didn't take anything else. A simple call to my bank and my insurance company did the trick. I'll be back on the road after some repairs in a few hours.

Just going through her options, I was blown away by how easy it was to get to CBs with educated mashing xD. Also, I'm used to playing with a lightweight character, so I'm aware of the drawbacks. Can't get launched, it's that simple (easier said than done, though).

As far as looks DOA looks good but it could be better, with other games out now I'm not as in awe in regards to how the game looks. When I look at it i see a last gen game with ps4 shader slapped on and not much else when compared to other games I play XD its aged imo and I think its time they could make a game tailored for the current gen rather than a remastered last gen game with a shader slapped on.

I love DOA but I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, visually and mechanically its time for a change. It's time for a current gen iteration and not a ps3 remaster running on ps4, when DOA6 is made im confident it'll look and play great if TN takes their time and doesnt rush it making 3 versions to get right

        I don't think its apt....

Studying the Match Up would be more to studying a playbook.

Studying Frame is like studing your team and the opposing teams Height, Weight and Measurements.... and their diet... and being able to tell that their jerseys are indigo, not blue.

Rule Number of Fighting Games.... Its never Your Fault. Always blame the controls.

Atleast thats what I do... ;)

Seriously though most Fighting Games deliberately make their controls convoluted and have the nerve to call it Deep and its for that reason I never take responsibility when shit doesn't work.
