I wouldn't mind but it doesn't seem optimal with how DOA always has made the environment an integral part of the game experience in regards to positioning and hazards. Plus it would probably hurt some of the slower characters like Bass in match ups against characters like Christie.

starting with some distance and your opponent has to work their way in at the start of a match? hell yeah im all for that, but that's mainly cause im a Nyo main and when the match starts with my opponent already in my face, im at a disadvantage b4 the fight even begins lol

Yeah I'm all for restricting movement before rounds.

I remember bringing it up back in DOA5U and many others about it, probably others brought it up long before that. I looked at SC and there is a fair bit of distance for it. Might give some of the heavies and earlier edge on thought process before going for trades. I say it wouldn't hurt anyone if movement was restricted at R1F.

i'm also in favor of removing the movement on R1F

Thank God! This was one place where, honestly, Tekken had DOA beat. Glad they got this one right! xD

Hmmmm... I genuinely don't know...

All I know is I definitely want a teeny tiny lil bit of space In the beginning... it can get annoying when a character gets all up in yo grill.

My reactions aren't fast enough at "get ready fight" anyway, I lose a lot of those battles in general (no matter the character). Now I have a little more time to think at the beginning of a round, and we start on truly even terms? Awesome.

I personally feel that DOA would benefit greatly from restricting movement at the start of rounds like VF, SC & Tekken does. The neutral game would get more pronounced, leading to a better viewing experience for onlookers. SC would be ridiculous if Sophitia or Talim could get in Nightmare's or Astaroth's face at R1F.

However, my concern is that characters like Ayane, Lisa & NyoTengu, for instance, would benefit greatly from having a lot of space at R1F due to their movement and zoning capabilities. I'm an advocate of close range characters having to earn their closing-in of the distance on characters as opposed to getting in for free. However, I also like how environmental stage positioning is a large attribute of DOA's gameplay.

@Force_of_Nature It's why I mentioned that there should be an extra distance gap. But at the same time, Ayane will win the trade with most heavies anyway so you might as well widen the gap. Ayane would be far off from distance sure, but this gave the heavy characters extra room to process on now getting in. That way, if the heavies didn't get in. It's on them, if Ayane made the mistakes, it's on her.

It would be a shame if that isn’t possible, but I wouldn’t mind if it’s not present. It’s handy to know what kind of player you’re against. Some characters really benefit from it as well, like Raidou and other slow characters.

I know what that's like already, it's called playing Ein

Give it to us, because I'm tired of seeing people dashing in each others faces to get a 6P in as soon as the announcer says FIGHT. And as stage positioning is very important, moving around at the start especially against a character like Hayabusa is a struggle.

Trying to think what other game allows you to move b4 R1F? I know the marvel games let you do it, arcana heart 3 lets you do it, and I remember in vf5 certain characters can stance switch b4 the match starts

Not sure which one is better, I'm torn tbh.
Consider the following: stages are very irregular in DOA, and not all stage respawn points are created equally. Imagine being busa in this picture and not being able to move around to make the situation less unfavorable https://i.imgur.com/DVgBcJq.jpg

But at the same time crapo's point is legit, it favors the in-your-face fast strikers a tad too much, it gives less breathing room.
How about both. Add a R1F optional toggle setting just like the 3/4-point-hold one for science and let us test both lel

How about this, b4 r1f you can move into the background/foreground, but you can't move forward/backwards, that would rectify the whole bad spawn situation

@Camel with 2 thumbs Killer Instinct also lets you move at R1F IIRC. As for the irregular stage issue, the solution would be to not have uneven stage hazards being biased towards one character. In VF, SC & Tekken, at R1F, both characters tend to have an equivalent "wall or whatever" behind each other with something like a balcony break generally being off to the side for instance.
