Yes, it is. But it has its lighthearted moments too. It's a fantastic anime series. Watch it!

It's okay. It kind of loses its way and falls flat in some areas, particularly near the end, due to the fact that the original source material wasn't even finished yet when the anime was in production, so they had to come up with their own original ending.

I've never read the manga, but I'd imagine it's a better option than the anime. The anime's OP is legit though.

The manga's definitely better in my opinion. Either way, it's kind of an...out there series (and not strictly in a good way), but the manga handled a lot of plot points better.

There was also some conflict in the team, because the anime director REALLY wanted to ship Kouta and Lucy, but it becomes pretty clear later on that the mangaka clearly didn't intend that to be a thing.

READ...(sorry had caps on), read the manga instead, the theme song and the opening scene are pretty cool, so i'd suggest watching the first episode and then just reading the rest of it

Speaking of Elfen Lied, I always thought Scarlett Johansson's Lucy was a very loose adaptation of it...

If you main Reaper and bathe in blood you'll think it's pretty sweet. Otherwise it's a lot of "meh."
