and with that TTT2/VF5FS combo it is. its amazing how namco is cramming so much crap into the game and giving fans damn near every character that ever existed in the series(they brought back friggin P.Jack for f***s sake) with a whopping 50+ roster. while team ninja decides to actually cut characters with less than half the roster and of course it just had to be leon, getting rid of a veteran doa mainstay while shoehorning in 3 VF characters that are already playable in their own superior series is pretty damn stupid. if i do get this game it will be when it hits bargain bins and a cheap price(which shouldn't be too long since ttt2 will no doubthurt its sales and should drop in price rather quickly)

^ Wow somebody is taking it pretty hard. I feel bad for ya man that TN pulled off a stunt like this. Who knows maybe Leon will be a DLC character in the future along with others.

Wow, relax DontForkWitMe, we don't know if Leon is in the current E3 demo - I mean the last build - and we can't be sure Pai Chan will be in the game actually. Maybe they realized 3VF characters was too much, maybe they replaced her with a totally new character (okay, it's not that easy to change the roster after it has been decided months ago, actually I don't know how it works in the video game industry, but they certainly added some surprises after that leak in March).

If Leon is not in the game in September, he will certainly be playable via a free DLC later, among others characters like Ein or Tengu. Free DLCs are not "unfair", right ?
And for Alpha then, does that mean she is just a boss ?

Ironically this is the same reason I'm probably not getting TTT2 right away. Who wants to learn that many matchups? I felt the same way in T6, I'd go from a long domination streak to just getting randomed out over and over once people switched over to the shady side of the roster. Yea I mean it's great for people who already know the game inside and out, but seriously...

Anyway, you should at least wait for Mila. You never know...

Interestingly enough, upon reading grap3's correction, I immediately assumed she'd be a MMA/Vale Tudo/Submission Wrestling character. After all, Ein gets dropped and we get a TKD character (and has some moves that look somewhat similar). It'd be the same principle, really.

It's just a shame we're stuck with four ninjas.

Not sure how you make that connection. Rig plays nothing like Ein in my eyes... he doesn't even punch (or hasnt yet, at least). He IS the amnesiac replacement though, quite literally.

If anyone remembers, Itagaki dropped Bayman briefly during the arcade version of DOA 2 and there was hella backlash over it. So Bayman came back in the console ports, alongside Leon. He learned that removing a character, however minor the differences are pisses people off and he learned from that mistake. From that point onward, Leon has always been available even if it was only as a hidden character.

But this is a new team.... and not every bit of wisdom is passed on sadly. I imagine this is not the last time we have seen Leon, but it will probably take some public backlash and either a DLC update, or the next numbered release before we see him again.

Why was Bayman dropped in DOA2 at first ? Is it about the whole Rolento thing ? What was the official reason ?

Just like you guys, I can see a more feminine version of Vanessa Lewis with some moves borrowed from Leon's moveset. I mean, the military girl is one of the last "stereotype" we don't have in DOA, notably with the pink-haired loli, the Native American, and the psycho.

Okay, so here's the entire list of code in the section referring to costumes in the order that it appears. What you'll notice is that Alpha-152 only has one outfit, Leon is noticeably absent, there are several RTM files which are story mode specific models and the playable characters have a few more files than everyone else which is likely due to them being the only ones finished at the point when the demo was made available. If you've managed to dis-assembly the DOA5 demo's executable and want to check this data for yourself, this section of code starts at Hex address 1145216 and ends at 1169270.

All this evidence, ripped straight from the demo's code, suggests that Leon was cut very early in the development of the game and that Alpha-152 is intended to be a boss character. There are references to Ein, Tengu, Raidou, etc but they all use different formats than the characters likely playable in DOA5 as this was originally built on top of DOA Dimension's code.

Of course it sucks for the five people that played Leon and Ein, but I'd take quality over quantity every day. They probably want to keep the roster tight for balancing reasons (how many of the 50+ characters in TTT2 will be completely half assed/useless?) and 23 different characters are more than enough in my opinion.

Who knows the original reason they cut him out... I guess Itagaki watched "The Professional" too many times and wanted Jean Reno with a similar moveset, and eventually saw no real reason to keep Bayman around.

Spartan says hello (and goodbye), but if Leon is indeed gone I do hope there is a slightly more aggressive Bayman variant. I don't see a chick doing the desert falcon though. Even Spartan couldn't make that bird fly straight.

Sigh... still say they should have made Bayman nuts after the DOA 4 ending. Give the guy some split personality mechanics like Tira and you could have had both movelists.

screw it...done some thinking and still getting the game day 1, im just frustrated that this is the 2nd fighter this year scrapping my main, its like im forced to learn all the popular overused characters in fear of the lesser popular/used and more interesting characters getting cut in future installments.

im still onboard and TN lucked out since there was actually one other character i used to decimate people with in DOA4 when i took a break from leon and it was that little bastard eliot. I mean beating on super powered ninjas, and their flashy magic trick BS with a prepubescent little boy wearing a tiny vest, sports bra top that exposes his abs and short shorts is as satisfying to me as manhandling them with leon. hes like the ultimate troll character and is actually fun to use. guess now he'll be upgraded from secondary to main and will be who i use exclusively since no one will replace leon as my grappler. TN better make eliot a goddamn beast of genfu-like proportions in this to make up for this atrocity

Not sure how you make that connection. Rig plays nothing like Ein in my eyes... he doesn't even punch (or hasnt yet, at least). He IS the amnesiac replacement though, quite literally.
Tae Kwon Do is Korean karate (plus elements of indigenous Korean martial arts, notably Taekkyeon). The kicks in TKD are very similar visually to the ones in karate by the very nature of their origin. So, I'm making a visual connection (hence, my use of the term "moves look somewhat similar"), which is also why I made the connection of MMA/Vale Tudo/Submission Wrestling to Leon's takedown-happy version of Sambo. Although they're not the same style in reality, or potentially don't even play the same way in terms of the designers' applications, there are elements that all of these styles share visually.
