i think a lot of the disappoint comes from the fact that it looks cute and chibi-fied in the picture so the proportions are shorter, and it just didn't translate well. i also sorta kinda blame the artist for not illustrating the fact that the leggings, gloves and bow were suppose to be lace as it says in the concept picture and instead illustrated them as just dark grey. BUT i blame TN for taking the shirt and making it longer but again, proportions. but i guess since we can clearly see the dress was suppose to be almost a shirt, i would think TN would notice that too? idk. also another annoyance is the fact that the shirt/dress was suppose to be patterned with tiny roses and that didn't translate at all. Idk who to blame on that because they're really tiny on the picture too and the artist didn't provide a big enough sample for TN to implement. not like they couldn't make their own rose pattern. my point being, TN didn't really change the outfit to their liking but followed the artists concept and tried to stay true to it. when it comes to character design, you need to be clear and precise what design you're trying to portray or else the team that actually models the outfits are going to have to go by ear and its not going to come out 100% true. (I.E Jacky's train wreck of a shirt)

Ok, I've kinda been lurking around this site again for a month or so now but haven't been commenting ... however I thought I should speak up on this since I am the artist.

I am going to partially take fault for the image being small, even though Twitter did reduce the image size a lot for some reason, but if I had of uploaded it earlier maybe on the day Twitter wasn't being a little shit ... or on Facebook (even though FB ruins image quality which is why I hate it) it probably would've worked. I sent them an additional link to a full sized image afterwards but I can understand why they dismissed it or whatever.

However the full image you can see the lace on the stockings, I did draw it though not extremely well because I'm not the best artist on the planet which is why I also made a note of it. And I don't think my art style should make a difference, the dress doesn't look that bad anyway even if I did imagine it somewhat shorter.

It's the stockings that are the problem. I have to agree with the people that don't like the stockings because they're not black. If they were black and if you use her default hair with the black bow, it would've looked A LOT better and balanced. But, I can't be entirely mad or upset because at least my design made it into the game to begin with. I've got to be slightly happy and I am.

I don't think I'll ever enter a DOA contest again though because my designs never turn out as nice as I imagine. The anti-aliasing on the ears of my Momiji Halloween design were terrible and it somewhat ruined the outfit for me. I still use her casual more than my own design which seems sad.

But yeah, for those that do like it, thank you. I'm glad.

With a few changes (most of all the ridiculous breast size and the leggings), it does look closer to the original design and imho better overall:

Thank you, it's still extremely shocking when I think about it tbh. Especially the Momiji one because I didn't make it into the top 10 which didn't surprise me so I was like "okay, there's no special prizes being announced so it's over" and then a month later BAM!, special winners picked by the staff and I was one. So shocking.

tbh the halloween costume was literally last minute because i cared way more about the first constant outfit so i was like "eh, why not" like 2 days before the deadline.

i sincerely hope i didn't come off too much like a cunt, if i did, i apologize. regardless, i don't think you shouldn't not enter any future DoA contests. your designs are beautiful and a lot of us were rooting for the outfit. it's just sad that the translation turned out so....eh. idk. like maybe its cause its 3 am but im sad now because this post is hitting me in the feels.

The new added pre-selection option where you change hairstyles, underwear, glasses etc has glasses greyed out and set to off when picking the marauder outfit meaning they can only be toggled on his other costumes

I just need to point this out.


The option was always there, it was just with unnoted toggle options, rather than a visible menu.

Amazed to see Mai Shiranui is the subject now.

I doubt Mai Shiranui could never be a guest character in DoA. Even she was the first half naked ninja with bouncing features, she has fire attacks and projectiles, I don't see her gameplay fitting in a game like DoA (well, I guess I can't imagine how Ryu will look in TvsSF...) Anyway, similarity with Kasumi would be too obvious...

But I'm expecting tons of mods of her, now the game will be on PC.

@Tirahrr I reminded that you were the author of Helena's design when I saw your twitter profile, sorry for my memory and congratulations even to you for the design now part of the game. I agree that it could be implemented better, but imo the final outcome is anyway very good making of Helena a stilish diva. In both the contests my main preference for your characters was addressed to different designs from your, but in no way I considered your works bad, just the opposite indeed I like your Momiji's and Helena's design. Personally I hope to see you partecipate again in the eventual future design contests hold by Team NINJA.
