I've been wondering this for quite a while today while I was playing Hitomi in the alpha demo; the cpu teched off the ground with a low wake-up kick and I did Hitomi's 9k hop kick. I guess the timing was a little too late and I got NH stun with her hop kick. When I play Tekken, or VF I notice most characters that have hop kicks launch on NH (possibly every character in both series, could be mistaken). However, when I play DOA very few characters have hop kicks that launch on NH, or require CH status/stunned state. I just think it's natural for all hop kicks to launch on normal hit and it's awkward when I play DOA and only so few have hop kicks that actually launch on NH. (Hayabusa probably being the exception who's hop kick I believe launches on NH in every DOA and probably the fastest. 8k i'm referring to BTW). Some characters might have 2in1 hop kicks like Helena's 9k.(which btw isn't a true NH hop kick since the second kick can be countered),

So do you guys think every character with a hop kick should launch on NH?

All hop kicks are different varying from character to character. I feel that it is fine as it is now. I don't see it as being a big issue that they don't launch on normal hit.

However, if TN did make them to where they were normal hit launchers, I wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as they are all unsafe. It would give most characters a normal hit launcher. I can think of only 3 characters that would have it in-string: Kokoro, Lei Fang, and Kasumi. I guess it wouldn't be all that bad I have never gave too much thought into them, hop kicks that is.

well in most the characters have a NH high launch AND a NH mid launch ...

having the ones that require stun are like icing on the cake .. in a sense that they can be used as combo starters ..
personally im happy with it the way it is .. because it gives it another element of screwing with someones head IMO ..

when a character only has a mid NH launcher ... opening them up with a stun just creates a new threat .. because of the high launch options now ...

the other thing you need to consider is that if everything launched .. theres not much use for the ground game .. lol .. (some people might like that because of them not having to guess as much anymore .. but .. personally i think it dries out the game)

then you need to think about it in reverse ..
if they all launched .. you get limited with stuns ...

i personally like the system as it is .. :)

They are not afraid of tekken persay, as much as they are afraid of learning. In tekken you will die in one or two hits, and safe movement takes practice. Humans despise learning, we avoid it like the plague. If we lose in fighting games, what are we more likely to do? Get pissed off, or try to learn why? Since there are far fewer high quality players than lower quality ones, I'd say the answer is clear -- We'd rather get pissed off.

Lots of gamers want instant gratification and demand the ability to win without first learning anything, and if you don't know how to avoid these instant deathtraps you cannot do so. Naturally this pisses them off further, because tekken isn't exactly quick to learn.

2d fighters in particular are incredibly guilty of catering to that crowd since most characters are so easy to understand when they only have a handful of special attacks... the required learning curve is very low until you get to games like 3S and KoF (which are far less popular). I'm almost positive that is the primary reason 2d's are more populated than 3d fighters.... especially after I heard Cyberevil's analysis of Marvel as simply "do your own thing and don't give two shits about what your opponent is doing unless you're trapped."

Such mindless action would cater to most people where they don't need to worry about anything. Throw in tons of iconic characters and fanservice, and you have the most popular fighting game on the planet. Or, at least in the US. But take a game that just smacks you down again and again as you try to learn it though... and yea, you're gonna have a steep decline in popularity.

Absolutely not (to the topic). Launches don't benefit every character in the same way so the moves shouldn't behave the same way for every character.

YES. I fucking love hopkicks, they're the best thing since T4 Heihachi Electrics. Remember when he had three different Electrics?
