Supporting Doa in events: turning up

It was interesting to see today as MLG anaheim ramps up that the fighter segment is receiving lots of positive attention and you see comments like this from the broader fgc:

It's great to see the mk community supporting their game - this is what we'll need to see for Doa when tournament opportunities inevitably come up.

If TN is willing to make a game that cators to competitive players than players will compete, I'll definitely travel to local events if I feel the game is worth my time. MK9, SCV, and KoF13 are the ultimate love letters for this ideolgy. MK9 basically having no real scene since UMK3, KoF never being relevant before(in the US at least), and SC being that 'other' namco fighter that was played semi-seriously are all making huge comebacks and seeing more success than ever because the developers put that extra effort into appeasing the player community.

Do you think there are also more platforms for fighting games to show up to and helps create a broader spectator base, and there is an uplifting effect?

I think DOA being on Xbox secluded itself from the general comminuty for a long time, so you had a growing base that didn't have access to it, and only had heresay to form an opinion on it. Kind of like Smash Bros on Nintendo. So being available on both is going to make the game accesible to potential prospects. Unless Itagaki takes custody of DOA5 last minute and turns it into his randomly slutty daughter, DOA is going to be bigger and badder than ever.

I live in Latin America and that has always been a problem for me to live good DOA events. I managed to get a small group in the early DOA4 days and even organized two small tourneys. But now I really believe that I might be able to fly to North America and Europe to go to events. Once or twice a year if I organize my time and money very strictly. And if the game ends up being good of course (which I'm sure it will).

The only problem would be to actually speak to you people since English in my second language.

Some players travel to America without knowing a single word of English. You shouldn't worry about it at all.

It helps if DOA folks can actually help and organize their own FGC events that feature multiple games, sort of like 8WayRun has the Break and features SFIV and Marvel despite them being a Soul Calibur site.

This is not a bad idea. We've been playing VF on stream on the weekends. I don't know what other game could be picked up. I suggest SkullGirls

I think he's referring to an event hosted offline for gathering/tournaments of various fighting games, not Gill's FSD member stream.

Eh, they're close to the same.

Should we start logging events that will be running or likely to include DOA in their lineups? (This might split to a separate topic or section of the wiki).

For example, I run VF in Melbourne Australia at www.couchwarriors.org events and support events in Sydney via www.ozhadou.net and others.

Basically, there are monthly gatherings for multiple games and as we've built up a base of players particularly for SC and VF, there's a crossover ready to happen and I'll slot DOA right in, including in future major events the groups have planned.

If you have a local group, regular event (big or small), or occasional tournament that you can reliably state will include DOA, we can start taking account of them and encourage people to go to these events.

That will help address this long standing bugbear of "people don't travel to events" - well, lets help them by raising awareness and lowering the barrier to entry.

Ah stream can work as well, but what's important is to get people to come and play. The key is to get decent comp that people will want to both play against and watch on stream.
