Rumored DOA5 Game details 06/28/2012

According to this Japanese DOA blog http://doa.gg-blog.com/Entry/260/, a few details emerged after a lengthy interview with Tean Ninja & Sega.

A few points that caught my attention:
  • During Cliffhanger sequences, the attacker can chose to neither strike or grab (Therefore do nothing and jump over the opponent)
  • Single elimination tournaments will be available online (up to 16 people)
  • Possible voice / text chat in lobbies
  • Players won't have avatars in lobbies
  • Sarah's Holds will be derived from her VF5 Throws
  • Sarah is the only English voice in the JP version of the game
  • 3-button command of VF5 is being adjusted in order to allow the tag change command of DOA5
  • There will be a new stage called "Tatami"
  • Character Customization may be considered after DOA5's release
  • DOA tutorial mode will include rewards
Don't know how much of this is true... Thought I'd share anyway...

Wow.........I SO hope the Character Customization is true. I've seen some of Sarah's grabs in VF, they seem to go on forever, so it doesn't surprise me her counters will be based of her grabs.

Many people would love Character Customization. I think it was SC5's selling point!

Apparently SEGA had total control over the redesign and integration of VF5 characters, as they provided all the data to TN and adjusted the slightest details such a "Sarah's chin length"...

Thanks Black, true or not, this information sounds reasonable enough to be considered fact.

I doubt any DOA and or VF fan in their right mind would say no to a customization mode.

Customization ?? ... Let the trolling outfits begin ... >___>
I hope they just mean color swaps and hair styles (and leifangs glasses ^__^).. like they had in DOA3

Hey, I'll take color editing and hair styles...actually I think I rather that than anything, and it's even less hassle on TN to add it in...something along those lines are better than nothing...

Out of all the main stream 3D fighters, I honestly thought Dead Or Alive would of had these options before the rest of em...DOA being the last to get customizations, who would of thunk it.

If they intend to do this customization thing post-release, I assume that will be the payed DLC.

They will need to have a free (and hopefully mandatory) compatibility patch when they are ready to introduce this however, so let's hope they don't burn all of the "free" patches Microsoft gives them early on like Namco did.

I guess it depends on how much control TN is willing to give... Allow players to dress up Hayabusa as Ronald McDonald and fight Bayman as Colonel Sanders? Let Ayane fight in her undies?

Or would they rather drive sales off skimpy bathing suits and make $$$ of DLC costumes?...

Just to clarify, these aren't rumors, they're bullet points from the meaty interviews they just put up. As for character customization, it's not post release. It's 'after DOA5' as in DOA6. I won't be able to read the full interviews until tonight but if I see anything he missed I'll let you know (I'm especially interested about the cliffhanger changes)

BTW those bullet points also mention the "pai real engine" has a soft feeling. By pai I'm pretty sure they mean oppai (boobs). Also there's something about VF characters keeping their K-cancel in addition to some other junk. I don't play VF so I couldn't tell you what that implies. And most importantly you forgot to mention there will be free battles online (no rank, points, etc)

So there's no choice between ranked/non-ranked matches at all? It's strictly non-ranked across the board?

They should make it so any attack that have a long execution be feint-able.

Feints would be deadly in DOA... That's a serious advantage for VF characters.

I disagree. Rarely do you see someone counter your first attack. The way DOA works, I actually see this working in favor of the defending player, but I could be wrong. I'm just not seeing the benefit of canceling a 13-frame high kick, leaving you at what I can only assume is a decent negative. It's like a telegraphed free cancel.
