KOF hype (90k viewers) is proof that you can't just throw money at a game won't get people to show up. You got that MLG?

You do realize that the "money" that MLG "throws" at the game is just the sponsor/publisher's money. MLG rarely puts its own money into the prize, but it's happy enough to take its cut and tax you from said prize.

Oh and there have been cases that because the publisher put the money towards MLG, the publisher was unable to give similar support to grass roots events.

Oh MLG. And Sundance wonders why we hate them.

Well of course they would give it to MLG before anyone else. More stream monsters = more advertisement for the game. It's a relatively cheap investment for advertising when you consider that big events like MLG are going to get mirrored to other gaming media websites, which ends up multiplying that advertisements effectiveness.

The other thing that MLG represents are multiple opportunities per year as opposed to Evo's.... one. I mean yea, there are road to evo events, but those range anywhere from respectable to hella-obscure. Doesn't really have the same audience.

But hey, I'm all for Evo expanding. Shit's blowing up.

So confused as to why we needed a second Evo thread on this site.

Anyway, KoF was easily the second loudest, most hype game at Evo. I was in the third row (judges' priority seating ftw) and it was absolutely deafening. Marvel definitely took the cake, but KoF was probably the most genuinely surprising game there. Had no idea it had such a passionate community and they showed up in force. Lot of people were bummed out when Bala lost but everyone showed a ton of support for the winners. Crazy insane. I just got home so I'm a bit tired, but I'll talk about it more tomorrow, possibly.

KoF was crazy, I got there late so didnt get any good seats. Would of gone to the judge seating but had a large group of people with me. I was surprised that even Mk got hyped. Good shit to Carl for winning.

MK was also the emptiest the ballroom got the whole day. More people were watching SFxT than MK. The general consensus amongst the people I sat near was that it was bathroom break and food time. I stayed to watch just because but it emptied out a bit. KoF was packed towards the front and Marvel and AE were full houses. A lot of stupid people yelling inappropriate shit up front, though. I was ashamed to be in the same area.

Indeed. Saying bad shit in another language is just as bad as in English.

Glad Mad KOF won. Bala was making silly choices on the Duo Lon matchup and deserved the loss. Coming back 6 games from losers in KoF is no small feat.

Cyberevil: I saw your stick at the SC station I was playing at, but I don't know what you look like and it was just chillin' on the side. Were you a judge?

Was cool meeting Dr. Dogg and the other guy whose name I forget.

I don't think MK's constant patching did anyone any favors. It's really hard to care for a game whose rules keep changing on an almost weekly basis.

If you saw my stick then I was judging the station since I always kept it where I was judging. You weren't registered by your forum name here, though, or I would have said something. I talked to pretty much everyone whose name I recognized, though I suppose it's possible I missed yours.
