I still find it hard to believe that they would want to drop Leon. It's like if Team Tekken suddenly decided to drop Bryan. Pretty much a recipe for disaster.

I think you're assuming too much about the statement. Seems to me like it could easily be PR speak just to hype up the announcement.
Obviously there's no general consensus as to who the fans are waiting for. If it were me, I'd want to see Helena, Lisa and Mila, but I'm sure there are a lot of people that don't care about those three.
What about when they dropped half the cast in Tekken 3 and severely dropped the number of characters in Tekken 4?
In T3 they sort of made hybrids of the old T2 characters, which they brought back in Tag1 anyway. T4 was a disaster though. They even dropped Anna in that game and T3/Tag1 Jin was replaced with new bastard Jin.
But shouldn't DOA5 be the T5 of the series where things are back to being all good?

Yea I know what you mean DrDogg, I do however want to see Lisa seeing as how she's my secondary main. I just read Team Ninja's statement and presumed it would be those two "Jann Lee and Helena", but as you say, it's just a hype factor with a nonspecific meaning attached to it.

Yeah, you had to unlock a lot of characters, but Nina was probably locked so that people would play Steve first to figure shit out. Not like anyone cares though.
