DOA5LR Dead Or Alive and Senran Kagura discussion

Haha, well, it's clear TN change character clothes, but hairstyles remain the same. They only change the hair color if it's need it, like Marie Rose/Mirai, for example. So, how can Rachel dress like Miyabi being blonde with long hair? Or how Ayane can cosplay Homura without having Momiji's hair? That's my point. But I could be wrong, ofc.
But they didn't change Kasumi, and she has different hair?

I think its more about outfits, and in Marie's case they went ahead and dyed the hair because she just happened to have the same hairstyle anyway lol.

(Also because a loliwaifu who they just throw weaboo cliches on anyway so it doesn't really matter for her it honoka..)

Also with your examples, Rachel as Shiki not Miyabi lol. There's not really any DOA girls I can see rocking Miyabis outfit, to be honest.

.though I'm sure I'll be disappointed by most of the matchups and so I'm trying not to think TOO hard about it

Your reasoning starting from the hairstyles was pretty interesting @Shiranui, however I'm still not completely convinced that it will be respected.

From the unique DoA picture released about the Senran Kagura pack, we got such infos:
  • Kasumi, main character of DoA, is wearing the same outfit of Asuka, main character of SK;
  • Marie Rose, gothic lolita of DoA, is wearing the same outfit of Mirai, gothic lolita of SK;
  • Kasumi's red/brown ponytail remained unalterated in the hairstyle and color; Asuka owns a black ponytaily;
  • Marie Rose's hairstyle, blonde twintails, was alterated in both the shape and color for being uniformed to the one of Mirai.
DeadorAliveSenranKaguraWM.jpg

Only judging from the picture, the conclusion should be that for this DLC pack the priority will be to give to the DoA girls the outfits owned from the SK characters with a "role" more close to them, while the hairstyles will be secondary in the choice and will be consequently changed if judged to much different (so the ones to know an adaptation will be the hairstyles).

Of course all this is only an inductive reasoning starting from the unique info made available so far, so nothing guarantee that it will be right.

Makes sense. Kasumis dark brown hair doesn't mess with the look, but MRs bright blonde hair screws with the dark dress.

Kasumi's "Auburn redhair" * (corrected it for you)
"Dark brown"
is closer to what Asuka have.
And I totally agree with you, her hair color match Asuka's outfit pretty well, I'll even dare to say it suit her even more.
As for MR, I also think that her outfit would have been way too similar to her default costume so they added a wig.

auburn red hair, XD
have to get that right.
XP
Her exact hair color is becoming more Auburn than true red hair, but she is still the ginger of DOA XD

I'm waiting for the patch note to be translated in english to see what that "destruction functionality" truly is.
As for now, I think it's pretty obvious they just implemented the feature before selling the pack, but it still is strange...
When an outfit is "destructed", it's not real destruction. They just alter it's look so that it appear destroyed.
So if they really added that feature, maybe those outfit will be on the game, just like when you download the catalog. That or they put all the "destructed" mesh and the fonction to swap between those during the fight.
In both case, that confirme pretty much what i was thinking about them having finished the pack.

@Kronin @Argentus keep in mind that:

·Kasumi looks OK as Asuka without altering her hairstyle
·Mirai was perfect for Marie Rose and their hair are pretty similar. Only shorter and black.

What is TN going to do with the rest of the cast? Do you really think they are going to give to Momiji hair down just for dressup her as Ikaruga? Are they going to dress up her as Ikaruga but without altering Momiji's hair? Or are they going to choose some other character that fits better with Momiji's looking, like Homura or Murakumo, or maybe Yumi now that she has that new hairstyle?

Well they did give Sarah short hair without a ponytail for her Halloween outfit so it's possible

You wrote this even previously, but honestly I didn't understand why you consider Marie Rose and Mirai's hair similar: the first has twintails and the second has loose hair. If they wanted give to Marie Rose an outfit of a girl owning some similarity with her hair, I believe that characters as Tamaki ,Tsubame and overall Yagyuu would have been more appropriate. But of course they used Mirai because sharing the gothic lolita fashion style and physical appearence.

I don't know the Senran Kagura series so I can't talk about the specifical case Momiji-Ikaruga, but I believe that scenarios where the outfits for the DoA girls are chosen on a basis of similar personalities or fashion with the Senran Kagura owners, are more likely than one where the hairstyle make this decision. Even if in the process the DoA girls should end to keep their own hairstyle without knowing alterations (so with Momiji keeping her long ponytail): after all people are putting their focus on the outfits worn from the DoA ladies, not if they are perfect cosplayers.

But again, I repeat that so far there is nothing that make my idea more likely than your one.

I think hairstyles aren't really a factor since only a couple hairstyles match up without leaving the actual outfit wildly mismatched.

Marie Rose just because they could.

Momiji is in a hazy area because not too many outfits actually go on her. She could use ikaruga or homura or murokuma but those would probably go better with Helena, Ayane and Nyo, respectively.

I think most of us can agree that this pack is probably teaser worthy, right?

So it got me thinking about when they might start this, assuming they do at all. The last possible day the pack could come out is the last day of the month, Tuesday the 31st (In the US at least, but it could vary for other countries). To get through all 16 pictures by then they would have to start by the 16th, finishing on the day of release.

Or if TN goes with an every-other-week pattern for DLC we might see it on the 24th, in which case they would have to start with the teasers by the 9th (this coming Monday). So there is a possibility we could get our next look at some of these costumes next week at the earliest, the week after at the latest, unless they don't bother with teasers at all this time.

I'm assuming it will drop somewhere near the end of the month since hopefully they don't want to take any chances of it flopping especially since it's with a partner.

Very likely the "Ninja Clans volume 2" will be released the day 10 March and the Senran Kagura pack will follow it 2 weeks later as for the usual patters, so on March 24.

Yeah this. I'd say on the 15th, they'd tease the outfits with two sneak peaks per day until the last 2 are teased on the 22nd. Then on the 23rd would have a full reveal and trailer and on the 24th it releases.

Senran Kagura Estival Versus releases in Japan on the 26th which would be a great way to promote that game before it releases.

Maybe I'm wrong. If I see Ayane with a long ponytail and black hair to cosplay Homura I'll be very amazed.

Not gona happend.

I don't think they chose the cosplay for one particular reason, but rather for a "global" point of view (Hair, boobs, height, personality, role). Thus I can identify 3 reasoning of development :

1) Two character must keep their graphical personality because they are the face of their game, but have to cosplay each other. Kasumi had to get Asuka's outfit for the simple reason that they are the main character of their respective series; but Kasumi also had to remain herself so they kept her hair.

2) If two girls match so well excepted for a little graphical aspect and, unlike in the previous case, they don't have the obligation to keep the graphical identity, we get the MR situation. The detail was easy to change and MR's color could be changed with transfiguring DOA's face.

3) Tow characters resemble themselves either graphically or mentally (choose one), but have nothing in common in the other. This is a case where we have 2 options : the "lazy cosplay", giving the outfit without going the pain of transforming the character, or looking for an other option in the SK cast.

My global reasoning take it's base on the fact that this is a "simple DLC" and they never would go through "unnecessary" efforts, such as completely altering body proportions or completely change the hair.
Thus, what I bet on are the most "predictable" cosplay. Those that you'd think of immediately without further thinking.
If there is a conflit between your "immediate feeling" and the realization, it's either that you're a bizarre person, or that you're right with the problem, and the latter will be solved in the most simple way (case 3).

For exemple we can take the "Orchid Warrior" DLC. It's pretty much the best exemple we have, especially for Ayane

Overall I agree @Baal bal, anyway I consider what happened to Marie Rose a big change and not a little detail: consider that she is already an iconic character for DoA (at least in Japan) to the point to get even the cover of the game - also, gothic lolita in Japanese fictions are usually represented as blondes.

Same thing for a character as Ayane becoming blonde in the Dinasty Warriors pack.

Not really true. Just do a Google search for "gothic lolita" and you'll find that hair is actually mostly black, then some are blonde, some are white haired, some brunette, red, pink... Anything goes basically.

Very true, my bad. In Japanese anime and manga fictions I'm used to see characters similar to Marie Rose as the usual standard appearence for this role, but actually seems that outside from these realms there is a much more varied representation.
