There seems to be lots of confusion regarding this. In English she (Cindy/Cidney) also refers to him (the real Cid) as "Papaw" or "Pawpaw" (however you spell that. XD) which is apparently Southern slang for grandfather. But in reality he is her father in the Japanese version, who also fought alongside Gladiolus' father and Cor at the side of Noctis' father in important past battles:

I think the quick translations done for Duscae just totally butchered some aspects of the game's lore and characters. Noctis sounding like Batman (what they are now trying to change apparently), Ignis sounding like an arrogant prick (whereas he sounds proper but still likeable in Japanese) or Gladiolus being a bit too much on the grumpy side (whereas in Japanese he sounds much more upbeat and dorky.)
Prompto they got on point however in the English version.

To stay on topic, is obviously pandering to the shonen-ai/yaoi loving crowd in several scenes just alone in Duscae also counted as sexualization?

To be honest the "hey Noctis meet me by that empty shed (;" thing Gladiolus did in duscae felt like purposeful teasing to the player

i would be surprised if it wasn't

nowadays the way to sexualize males to the female audience is adding shit tons of subtext in between the guys usually to the point where they act more like a couple with each other than with the one girl. it will most likely never develop into anything because then it would scare off the het guys, but it hooks the girls in to keep watching in case something ever does.

a recent anime called Prince of Stride does this so unabashedly strong you're left with no doubts who its made for. the plot being that "Stride" is a new relay race/parkour sport and in the middle of it you have to clasp hands with your partner to tag off and this action is called....."relationing" and the main girls goal is to see the perfect "relation" between two guys. i can not make that up.

And all that has to do with whatever the hell caused it to be rushed straight into oblivion with no improvements whatsoever aka Konami.

Free! was mentioned earlier in this thread and I think it's the absolute best example of this. Ouran Host Club had an overall vibe to it like this too.

Well, you said it before in one of your texts above: They make it obvious enough to make girls and gay men swoon but as sublte and non-comitting enough to not scare away hetero men. I personally see no problem with that. It's a good middle ground. If someone wants to play a real yaoi/gay game, there are enough of games like that out there too.

But yeah, the amount of subtext in the Tales series is just cringe worthy. My sister played Xillia and Symphonia, and it literally made us both shudder at how...obvious the subtext was.

In fairness, in Tales specifically, any and all romance is usually either just subtext, or one-sided. If I'm not mistaken, Asbel and Cheria were the first outright confirmed couple in the series, and they only came around about 14 years after it started.

They came after Asbel and Cheria, though... And that's still ~2 couples in ~15 games, not counting spinoffs (none of which break the subtext trend, as far as I know).

I'm going to spare yourself and myself my ususally long explanation posts with lotsa pics and gifs that kill Chapstick's smart phone since I'm not entirely sure some even want to address that topic. I actually don't have much of a problem with the sexualization and such. My main problem comes from the fact that they've gotten so caught up in making the game sexual ( which makes sense for the type of game it is. ) that they forgot to add in the actual gameplay.

nope cause i just got Akibastrip Undead & Undressed and im liking that a lot more.

you would think that its this hugely perverted game that just an excuse to undress people, but the way its done is much more comedic in tone than anything. its fun and nonsensical and the first game ive never played where stripping has been used to make fun mechanic. i also love the sister character she's not the typically "oni-chan i love you" she talks in this kind of monotunous voice, but shes one of the most interesting characters in the game.

speaking the yaoi fangirls we were talking about earlier, one of the first missions was to help an obessesed shipper calm the fuck down and the mission was called "She wants the D... on D" XD
