yeah he is pretty bland ill give you that.

his style is also pretty ridiculous. when you can pick someone up and spin them around your head it makes Judo/Sambo completley useless since they're based on using leverage for when you CANT do that.

Last I checked, character like Abel, Ralph, Clark, etc. are all considered grapplers, just not the same type as the usual slow, heavy, old-school "Capcom style" grapplers.

The basic requirement is just having command grabs as part of their gameplan. The old, get in and rely solely on command grabs for damage archetype is only a small subset of grapplers.

Happy to hear they un-nerfed some shit in beta 4. Mika's decent again, just needs 1000 HP and we're golden.

My personal definition is when they have multiple grapples for different situations. Like old school Clark was a grappler with his myriad of grapples. But XIII Clark isn't, just a power character based on spamming one big move like Zangief.

Like I'll call Alex a grappler, but Zangief just a power character. (Hugo is a grappler though). Abel is a hybrid imo.

Never let it be said that Street Fighter accurately represented the fighting styles lol.

Honestly with the rare exception of extremists like Elena and Balrog, the designated fighting styles are negligible at best. Like Juri didn't represent taekwondo at all, the shotokan style is just fantasy karate, sag at doesn't represent muay Thai etc etc.

Abel was just kind of a generic brawler really. If thwyd ever confirmed or actually done something with the connection to Seth or Remy being his rumored son, he'd have been more interesting but in IV he was just kinda...there.

Which becomes a problem when your personal definition contradicts the accepted definition. Heck, Zangief is the prototypical archetype of the grappler (and he only started out with 1 command grab in WW). Characters like Abel, Laura, the KoF grapplers all count simply because the command grabs are still a part of their offense.

Shotokan is a misnomer due to bad translation. Ryu and Ken's actual fighting style is called Ansatsuken.

Does the name make a difference?

So much boring talk in here, so few visual media... :/

Here, let's have a look at the content of the North American Collector's Edition for Street Fighter V:

sfv-na-special-edition-ryu-statue2.jpg

There will a game, a Ryu statue, an art book (I'm jealous! D: ), a one month Twitch.tv subscribtion, an UDON comic and a soundtrack sampler. It will cost 99,99$

Here's also a brand new TV spot:

Lol, I really dislike these comically serious and pretentious motivational videos...XD

What's so wrong about that video? It just basically taps into passion that the community has fostered throughout the years.

Yeah, we all got it by now, Street Fighter is for the pros and casuals suck. ;)

By the way, for all casuals out there: buy the season pass, so you don't have to play the game to get your awesome new characters and pretty costumes:

Both trailers aren't even solely about that. Aside from competition, they also showed, artists, cosplayers, musicians, etc.

It's not about the trailers...it's about you never getting tired to point out that Street Fighter is for the pros.
You even edited your last post to quickly scratch the "competitive spirit" part:

First:
What's so wrong about that video? It just basically taps into the competitive spirit that the community has fostered throughout the years.

Now:

No, what I've been saying is that they're focusing on their core community, the same core community that kept these games alive through the so-called "dark ages" and helped bring the franchise back.

At the same time, these trailers are an enticement for people to join the core community and share in that passion we have for the game. They're basically communicating the same message as documentaries like "I Am Street Fighter", "More Than a Game", or "FGC: Rise of the Fighting Game Community".

That's a cute interpretation... But here's what these spots are actually saying to the core community:
"YOU NEED TO BUY THIS GAME!"

This is great exposure!

By the way, will there be any other stages, like the Chinese stage, where you can slam your opponent into the soup kitchen or the bus (on the opposite site)?

wygzts.gif

None of the other stages (New Zealand, London, New York, Rio, Japan, Russia, India...) seem to have that option. Was this just completely cut or are just the beta versions of the stages limited in that regard?
Also, do we know how many stages there will be at the time of release? Is what we've seen so far all?

They announced a proper story as DLC for June. I'm impressed. A little late but better than never.
