No safe attacks
No good pokes
Low damage outside of strings
Not a fast character

She needs something
Excuse me, but are you talking of a different Marie? She has several safe strings, good pokes, and is pretty fast for an average speed character. Plus Marie is a combo oriented and defensive hold oriented character, she'd be way to OP if she could do more damage than she has now. I think you should honestly look at her frames again and go to the Marie forum, she does not need any buffs whatsoever. I use her and I'm content with her as she is now.

I have seen MR forum actually. Some argued the exact same thing I am saying now. The lack of safety was a big one.

I have also played with S/U+ ranks online as well. Even they agreed they she could use tweaks.

Well topic is gonna trigger some non MR players.

My thoughts: She needs to get in line regardless if she needs them or not haha. Quite a few characters could use some tweaks, but likely will never get it. She is not a special snowflake. At least in regards to character balance. She is a special snowflake in pretty much everything else though.

Which thread exactly ?
Perhaps you saw an old DoA5U one before the Balance Patches.

As it is right now Marie is perfectly fine. She doesn't have the worst reach, The Unsafest Moves Or The Lowest Damage.... That honor goes to Honoka, Phase 4 and Pai Chan respectively. And those characters don't need to be changed at all (except maybe for one or two moves) so by association Marie doesn't need to changes either. On top of that she has a Side Step she can't be thrown out of and doesn't allow strings to retrack, Fast Offensive Holds, And a worthy Parry.

Man I wish Tina had just one of those things...actually she does but one more wouldn't hurt. :)

Also what any DoA character may need online is not something they would need offline.... actually that applies to all fighting games. It would be better to try to optimize the netcode than to mess with a delicately balanced roster.

She's not that unsafe, and what's the bid deal about it? When you have defensive holds, a stance that parries, good mix ups and strings that can be safe when finished on block, and great combo potential yes you're going to be unsafe. It doesn't automatically warrant tweaks. As for the U and S players, I'm not sure what to process to their opinion. The players I've played with use her and never complain about her because there really isn't much to complain about. Marie is somewhat unsafe and lacks damage yes, butbshe has tools and strengths that make up for that.

You can buff her right after the step-hop is nerfed into oblivion.

You mean the Minuet? If she didn't have that she wouldn't have anything going for her lol.

But then again, a nerf to that to buff her in other spots would make her less gimmicky.

She's not gimmicky at all, she's a solid character, you just have to know her tools. Have you even played her yet, what you've said so far makes it seem like you've never actually tried her out at all.

Iv been playing her since I started playing doa5. Never switched to another character.

So when you say she is not gimmicky I kinda think it is you who doesn't play her often lol. Her strings are very repetitive.

so is everyone's. Strings are essentially just normal command moves mixed in each other. For example, Marie's PK is basically just P and K, and her PP6KK is just PP and 6KK from her move list. It's not anything really nee, every fighter has them.

I have an issue with any move that completely ignores the structured systems of the game. It's a stepping move that bypasses the concept of tracking in many cases, but not all... unless the timing is perfect. It is inconsistent, funky, and has no real downside. Tracking attacks need to track. It has to adhere to the systems it is supposedly shackled to.

Its just my personal opinion but if you took away the step-hop she would most likely be a lower-mid tier character who could use some minor buffs. With the step-hop though, she can be EXTREMELY obnoxious in certain matchups to the point that its just abusable with no real hard counter even with a perfect read.

I mean people get mad about my tank roll but the roll has NOTHING on the hop.
