Why would they reuse Dissidia's art style? It is much more anime-stylized than the current DOA look. It's a good middleground for all Final Fantasies (the very anime like and the more realistic ones) to come together under one stylistic roof.
I highly doubt they would go back to a more anime-inspired look for DOA though. If we look at Nioh, and I think that game is the best indicator for how DOA6 is going to look like, they will be actually going for more realism, also to make some use of the current consoles' power.
Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate and others might for the first time actually look Asian and others Western, like the characters do in Nioh.

Regarding the hair, it looks actually quite good in Nioh. High polygon and very detailed, even with some stray strands here and there.

Hopefully they do, because in DOAX3, they went back to a more "puppet"/"anime"-style if you ask me. Nioh-Engine/Style would rock.

I don't think we need to worry about that. ;)
Firstly, DOAX3 was just a quick and cheap reuse of DOA5's old graphics engine and assets (some assets even came from DOAX2), DOA6's engine will be a completely overhauled one, optimized for PS4/XboxOne. They now had lots of time for that and games like Nioh as a test run.
Secondly, DOAX3 looks the way it does, simply because of the game that it is and the audience that it wants to attract. Everything has to look sun-drenched and bright and the girls have to look shiny and soft like sexdolls. The dementedly smiling faces too were quickly added because they couldn't let for example Kasumi frown and look concerned as she did in DOA5 all the time.
DOA6 will very likely not be set entirely on a tropical island, the overal theme won't be vacation and volleyball and there will also hopefully still be male characters, who would look awfully misplaced in such a scenario and look.
Last but not least, if there's one thing TN does have, it is amazing character artists, that can easily work in any style that they see fitting and they do have a very good nose for what is fitting. ;)

Wow, I haven't checked this thread in a long time!

I honestly think this what DOA6 might lean towards when it comes to quality.
I don't, nioh looks good but isn't all that great. They can make a mix between Nioh and Dissidia FF graphics wise, it would make DOA look more unique and not just realistic. I NEVER once said I wanted them to straight up reuse the Dissidia artstyle XD, I said to make something LIKE the artstyle which they likely will. Dissidia has a a way more stylish and manga type style that compliments DOA, TN can also add their soft engine and skin shaders on top of the look to make it look stylish and realistic like how Injustice 2 does

DOA5 And Nioh look good but their styles bore me, realism alone doesn't impress me. Style mixed with realism however does which is why I feel Dissidia would be a better candidate for the game's new look.

Looks alot more interesting and stylish than this one imo, although they both look good

i'd love to see a realistic version of DOA. No more bikinis and other virgin bait bs, just a rework of all the graphics and even clean up some of the animations. a game where people look like people and not some hentai babe everyone is gonna use as a profile pic lmao

Going for full realism is a bad thing IMO.

There should be some stilization in the artstyle, i like the current doa 5 artstyle, and i'm also down for something more like NiOH, that people here seem to say it is very realistic, but there is heavy stilization in general as well.

Going for full realism wouldn't fit the over the top nature of DOA or its animations, and also would make everything a bit more bland.

Kind of like it does now. DOA doesn't really have a unique style anymore, everything is just realistic and they added unnecessary things like super transparent hair and the guys all share the same body. I don't want a full realistic DOA, it would make the graphics look boring next to other games since there's no style. SFV people complain about but I love the game because it has it's own style and look while not being realistic in regards to body but lighting and shading is very well done.

DOA5 is still using PS3 models, people say it looks better than other games out but I don't see it tbh, the models are slowly showing their age and the textures and lighting and overall look just don't compare imo, even X3 just pumped up the girl's ass and thighs and slightly improved lighting and detail and called it a day. DOA6 is the chance they can use to really make a mark since a current gen game on ps4 that uses ps3 models and assets can only get you so far XD

this is DOA4 vs DOA5. i think it's fair to say that the next one should look more realistic than 5, since 5 was made for older hardware. for the artstyle i mean Dark Souls is pretty over the top with the bosses and weapons and they still manage to make it look pretty realistic.

Like i said, i like how DOA 5 looks. It is more realistic than DOA 4? For sure! Does it still have its own style? Yeah.

Is what i mean, going for full realism will not fit the nature of DOA, and i think NiOH is an excellent example of how DOA would look like on this gen, the game would look better, would look more current gen, but it also would keep a nice artstyle that fits the over the top fighting that DOA presents.

I love how DOA 5 looks, besides the gripe that i have with the recycling of the same body models, which i think should be the focus of the next game visually, every character having his own body model made from scratch.

Also, dark souls 3 is still very anime looking, same for bloodborne. it is stylized as well.

To be more clear, i don't want DOA going the Injustice 2 route, Injustice 2 is going for full realism on the models, and it has the most bland artstyle, character models and animations i ever saw in a game ever.

I love comparisons like that! In my opinion at least I like/love the new photo realistic art style they have now miles more than the old anime style one they had, It wasn't bad the old one but I prefer this new one much more. I think doa6 should continue that and have graphics like people have mentioned like Nioh, Nioh is a perfect mix of realism but also stylized.

Nioh looks better here though. Also doa definitely still has a distinct style I'd say. You can see in that gif of Nioh there that it's still stylized. Personally I prefer it over Dissidia's, I love dissidia's graphics too but It's more anime than anything like realism that Doa and Nioh have been going for.

I was aiming at Nioh style graphics for a realistic version of doa, just make everyone look more human.

also Dark Souls anime? ayy lmao if i think about anime art style i think about DBZ
and Naruto games.

Yeah but it's too realistic imo, I think doa should go for more style and have realism as a compliment to that, many games try to make themselves look super realistic and it winds up with flaws. It's like with MKX, it used unreal engine 4 but injustice 2 used unreal engine 3 and made it look way better, and the game looks great and has a nice balance of style, realism in terms of faces and facial expression and making everything stand out from environments to characters

The characters having a realistic but stylized look like Nioh doesn't mean though that they can't have the outfits, characters, environments still stand out and be fantastic and futuristic etc like the other games. Doa5 still has locations that are fantastical like Sky city Tokyo and the stage that's pillars of rock high above a rain forest etc that are bright and amazing.

Hopefully we don't have to wait long and doa6 is revealed at TGS.

IMO doa5lr's graphics are fine the way they are with the exception of the hair and clipping, it's realistic, but still has that anime touch. I just hope it's a big upgrade in doa6, and that it's pleasing to look at.

As long as DOA6 looks leagues better than 5 I'm good, I'll be pissed if it winds up looking almost the same or like Nioh with no further refinement. I think the jump from MKX to Injustice 2 is the kinda graphic leap I wanna see, both those games are made by the same company but Injustice 2 is the product of a game improved from a previous style 2-3 years ago and taking fam feedback into account regarding faces and stuff. If they do use Nioh as a base which I honestly am against, they need to refine and improve upon the aspects and look since they've had enough time to see flaws and areas that can be reworked since Nioh is good but not perfect.

Plus DOA is a 3D fighter so the graphics potential is high if TN takes the time to show that as opposed to just releasing DOA6 half finished and using new versions of the games to hide the halfassery and cut content that should've been in from the beginning, And even then they've only improved content, the graphics still look the same with the exception of the soft engine and new skin shaders which could be better

If anything thanks to Honoka and Marie's exposure and popularity DOA if it was going to change art style(which it really doesn't need to) it'd go more anime not realistic lol. The whole reason DOA5 went with the Warriors art style and tried to be more realistic is because it was originally meant to tough and gritty to appeal to western fans and market.

That didn't work out though so they went full anime since, as for sexualization? It sells LOTS and will continue to sell in DOA6.

I think people aren't talking about the same thing here... I don't think they need to change art style either, But since doa6 is going to be a new game it is going to have improved graphics and Nioh is an example of what they are likely to go for and have realism and stylized but with improved graphics in general like characters like Kasumi, Kokoro etc having more Asian features etc maybe don't know but It might.

If you mean gritty and tough like the rap music and middle eastern war zone stages then yeah I could see them going away from them and having more bright stages which I'd be fine with that since my favorites are ones like Zack and the rock pillar one ( Still can't remember it's name )

As for sexualization though? Yeah it sells incredibly well so I can definitely see them continuing that in doa6, I have no problems with that anyway so If it sells ( and most look really nice anyway ) they should do it.

Lol, now the conversation is going, while I was taking my afternoon nap. XD

Nioh isn't entirely photo realistic in style. It still is, like DOA5, realism adding a certain anime aesthetic. Because the PS4 can do more than the PS3 they obviously went more into detail, especially in the faces department.
I don't think they plan to have DOA 6 look entirely realistic, PS4 and Xbox One would fail them on that task anyway. ;)

It's like with MKX, it used unreal engine 4 but injustice 2 used unreal engine 3 and made it look way better...

Nope, MKX too used a modified and optimized version of the Unreal Engine 3, not UE4. It would make zero sense to switch to a new engine and then switch back to an old, discarded one.
Staying with their old engine is among other things why Injustice 2 looked so good. They had already heavily optimized it for MKX, then they optimized it even more for IJ2. I bet they will finally lay it to rest now though...
*insert gif of falling debris crushing Lisa to death*
...especially considering they very likely will be porting the game to PC next.

What made Injustic 2 really look better than MKX was less the graphics engine though, but the intent to finally rethink their approach of modelling and animating human beings. They finally created actual humans, not ugly cavemen and cavew̶o̶m̶e̶n̶ men. Yeah, the women finally look like women. XD
