M for Mature

Content descriptors: Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence

Other:
Includes online features that may expose players to unrated user-generated content (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

Rating summary: This is a fighting game in which players engage in martial arts battles against a large cast of characters. Players mostly punch and kick opponents during fast-paced rounds of combat. Some fighters use special attacks involving swords, throwing weapons, or magic; matches are accompanied by battle cries and exaggerated impact effects. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence, such as characters getting struck down with swords in slow motion. Most female fighters are dressed in revealing outfits (large amounts of cleavage); their breasts sometimes jiggle while standing or fighting. Some bikini-style costumes (with thin strips of cloth) barely cover fighters' bodies, exposing large amounts of breasts/buttocks; one hologram-like figure appears to be nude—though her reflective skin obscures any discernible details (i.e., nipples or genitalia). In Photo mode, players can zoom in on fighters' cleavage or underwear as they pose for the camera. Some scenes are coupled with sexual innuendo (e.g., “Pleasure me,” “Enough with the foreplay.”).

Sounds like a T to me.

Agreed. The ESRB seems to be very sensitive with their ratings. I see no reason why most M-rated games out there get M ratings when so few of them have actually needed it. I mean hell, they changed the rating of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion from T to M after release because of unused files that were later found when hacking the game. They changed Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from M to AO for the same reason. It's stupid.

Either way, it doesn't phase me, because I'll buy the game regardless of it's rating. Still, I feel that if we're even going to bother having the ESRB, that they should actually rate games accurately.

Like Xion said though:
DOA4 is rated M, I wouldn't expect anything different.

DOA4 had some gore in the cinenatics, so the M was deserved. Does breast jiggle and better character models warrant an M rating over other fighters?

If I recall correctly, there wasn't really gore in DOA4, just blood. Bayman stabbing himself with a pen and Hayate slashing soldiers, but not showing any dismemberment. I feel that DOA4 was more deserving of a T.

Pffffffft HAHAHAHAHA! TOLD.

On a more serious note, I remember when I tried to get DOA2U. Because it was M and I was 15 at the time, they told me no. Fortunately, my friend hadn't accompanied me in. I was able to talk him into trying to get the game for me (He was reluctant because he didn't want to try to buy a super mature title and allow a bad influence in my life (What a friend)). It took him a while but he came out with it despite being only a year older than me. Dude was never carded because he had a full beard then and his voice was relatively low. Good Times.

Something I honestly don't understand is the T rating for Smash Bros. At least there isn't an ID requirement for those games but still...

My view of the ESRB rating: OMG TITS, CLEAVAGE, AND BIG BUTTS THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR KIDS *slaps on a M rating*. Like society isn't already messed up.... I've already had to deal with kids younger than I am who just go looking like hookers or something according to my parents.

According to them it's because of "Cartoon Violence". What the hell? You have Mario stomping on turtles constantly and they give his games an E rating but then when he's in a beat 'em up game against other Nintendo characters, someone at the ESRB finds it wrong and gives it a T rating.

Smash Bros has way more reasons to give it a T rating than that. Are you forgetting tanks, and getting hit by cars!?

You know what Looney Toons are rated? TV-PG (6 year olds). It's way more graphic and violent than Smash (It even has suggestive themes!) but apparently it's recommended that you become the age of 13 before putting the game in your console.

Um... What? Why?

Hurr durr because games are interactive and suggestive hurr hurr

/sarcasm.

DoA4 should of been T and DoA5 should be T but ESRB is well...ESRB. There are tons of games out there that are rated M that really make no sense. Heck there are T rated games that I don't even think should be T rating.

Sexual Themes, PARTIAL Nudity. Thats why it gets an M.

That doesn't equate to a M rating to me. Hell SC4 and 5 are way worse with it's fanservice and its rated T. I mean for crying out loud you can strip your create a character down to their underwear and change the breast size of the women in create a character.

Unless there is something EXTREMELY over the top within the cut scenes the M rating imo is unjustified.
