Fantasy Football '12

Ok, so I know most people on here are nerds, but some of us are also nerdy into other shit. I figured I'd start a thread to discuss your fantasy league, players, teams, stats, and give advice. Unfortunately being in Japan, my league drafted at lunch while everyone was at work, so almost everyone (with the exception of 2 players in my league, who went home to draft) were at work and couldn't leave while the draft happened and so we all got auto-draft teams. I'll post up my team later, the site is fucked up or something and I can't access my league right now. I just recently started following football (in '07 and never really hardcore until last year,) so I know I could use some help.

FYI, I'm a Pats fan (since '07) and Tom Brady does happen to be my favorite player.

Current Lineup:

T. Brady - QB
C.J. Spiller - RB
D. Murray - RB
A. Brown - WR
M. Austin - WR
R. Gronkowski - TE
S. Johnson - WR
M. Crosby - K
Ravens - Def

Bench:

M. Schaub - QB
F. Jackson - RB
D. Williams - RB
D. Amendola - WR
A. Collie - WR
J. Blackmon - WR

Here's my team, Week 1 points:

T. Brady - QB 19.90
D. Williams - RB 0.40
D. Murray - RB 14.00
D. Amendola - WR 7.20
A. Brown - WR 7.80
R. Gronkowski - TE 12.00
S. Johnson - WR 11.50
M. Crosby - K 2.00
Ravens - DEF 18.00

Bench

M. Schaub - QB 17.10
T. Richardson - RB 4.40
C. Spiller - RB 23.40
M. Austin - WR 13.30
A. Collie - WR 0.00
J. Nelson - WR 8.40

Trade Nelson and D.Williams for a better RB. Start S.Johnson. Drop (or trade) L.Robinson to pick up a sleeper WR like Justin Blackmon, Danny Amendola, or Eric Decker. Also, A.Collie is not reliable (always gets hurt).

Yeah I didn't plan on using A. Collie or L. Robinson. I actually just put T. Richardson on the bench for this week and put D. Williams on my starting line-up just due to Richardson's injury, he may still be recovering, but he is Clevelands whole offense. I'm looking at all my players (honestly I didn't know a lot of them) and it looks like my bench, for the most part is complete garbage. Really though, you think I should trade J. Nelson? I think he has a lot of potential to pick up points, why do you think I should drop him? Lastly who should I bench to start S. Johnson?

edit: So I looked through who I can draft and what not, who are some good RB's I should look at to trade or pick up to replace J. Nelson and D. Williams? As for WR I can draft Danny Amendola, the other two are owned by two other members of my league, should I drop L. Robinson? and just draft up D. Amendola?

p.s.s. If I pick up D. Amendola should I start him, and in place of who? Sorry, I feel like a total newb and I know you're really into sports. I like them, so I'm excited about this fantasy football, we should have had a FSD league lol.

I think Nelson is good for trading because people will tend to value him high due to his team's potent offense. Problem is he's good, but VERY LIKELY won't be consistent since the Packers spread the ball around so much. Greg Jennings is pretty consistent, though you probably won't be able to get him.

With Nelson and Williams in a deal, you should be able to get a good RB from someone ... unless guys in your league want to make things UNNECESSARILY complicated.

The goal is to get someone who is a fair upgrade to D.Williams. You want to look at players around the level of Fred Jackson, Ryan Mathews (note his current injury), Adrian Petersen (note his current injury), Darren McFadden, or maybe Steven Jackson (if paired with another player who is not junk).

As for WR I can draft Danny Amendola, the other two are owned by two other members of my league, should I drop L. Robinson? and just draft up D. Amendola?

I'd say so. Amendola has higher potential than Robinson. Amendola is expected to be the Rams' goto WR, while Robinson is expected to be outshined by Justin Blackmon (rookie WR on same team)

For now, I'd say start S. Johnson over Amendola, if you end up trading Nelson. Brown and Austin are good, just keep an eye on their matchups and injuries. If one guy looks like they might underperform a week, you should have at least one good backup to put in that spot.

A lot of the guys in my league, well I'm not exactly friends with, so I don't know how complicated it will be. One guy wants Jordy Nelson bad it seems though, he has Aaron Rodgers as a QB already. He has Adrian Petersen, Frank Gore, Michael Bush, Toby Gerhart, Jonathan Stewert, and Pierre Thomas for RBs.

You should definitely be able to snag AP from him (for Nelson/Williams). Try to get a decent WR to come with him, though.

Dude. PUT MENDENHALL ON YOUR BENCH. Even if he plays this week, he's NOT getting the bulk of carries!

EDIT: Just noticed you're weak on backup RBs. You're still better off with Blount in this week, as he is TB's goal-line RB. Recommendation ... DROP HASSELBECK, and try to pick up a decent backup RB.

Also, if you're gonna trade, trade Sanchez QUICKLY (before he screws up and opens the door for Tebow!). Keep Smith, as he's a viable sleeper at QB.

I lost my first week, with a score of 98, the guy I played scored the highest in my league though. I should have put C.J. Spiller in, who the fuck thought he would explode like he did though!? and Williams didn't do shit!!!

Also, hilarious that your joke team won but your main didn't.

edit: edited my first post to show who I started and points.

Spiller benefitted from F.Jackson getting hurt early (you can't predict injuries!). He's gonna be out 3 weeks, so that makes Spiller a starter RB during that time.

But yeah, that's Fantasy Football! (like RG3 beating the Saints!!) lol All it takes is a few big plays for some random guys on your opponent's team, along with some underperformances from a couple of your guys, and you take a surprise loss. It's cool, though. You go through a couple seasons, and then you realize that (just like real teams) you shouldn't sweat these regular season games too much, as the playoff games are what really count! Just get to the playoffs, and it's anything goes with tons of players SURGING at the end of the season!!

Looking at the other teams in my T1's league, I'm expecting at least a 10-3 record going to the playoffs (~2-3rd seed). I got a shot at doing better, but I know not to get too cocky. I expect all my teams to make the playoffs (as long as "Madden Curse" doesn't hurt too bad! lol), but we'll see how things play out.

edit: edited my first post to show who I started and points.

Just a suggestion for next week ... start Spiller over Williams, Austin over Amendola, keep an eye (if you can) on Richardson's progress through the week (if he has good practices, you may wanna start him in, I'm assuming, the Flex position on your team, and move S.Johnson to start over Brown), and you can probably just drop Collie for a free agent WR (if any decent ones are available).

Did you try for the Peterson trade, or no?

Yeah I tried, it was a no go, he isn't giving up AP for anything.
