I'm getting a console just for this game, should I get a 360 or a PS3?

I'm a PC gamer that enjoyed Virtua Fighter 2 in Sega Saturn and Dead or Alive 3/Ultimate on the original Xbox. I want to buy a console system exclusively to play this game (don't really care about other games), what system should I get? Disclaimer, not going to play online and acquiring a pair of arcade sticks it's a must. I'm looking for the console which offer smoother graphics, gameplay, etc.

First of all welcome Neko! ^^
In my opinion, if you look for the smoother graphics and the gameplay, I think that PS3 it's the best option. In addition I hear many people think that the controller of the PS is better for playing in comparison with the one of the Xbox.

About the online, the service of the Microsoft is not free (contarily to the one of Sony), but in general is more better. Anyway if the online is not your priority, it shouldn't be a problem for you.

However I'm just an owner of the Xbox360 (and Wii), so wait for the better comments of the people that own both the consoles

Xbox 360 will probably have better competition online as It's had DOA4 before (It's happened the same with VF5 - VF5FS)

Not interested in online: PS3

Get a 360 so you have the option of playing DOA4 and comparing it to 5.

Playing with the girlfriend and I expect some old college friends coming to my house for the holidays. We play online a lot (League of Legends, Guild Wars 2, Day Z, Borderlands 2, etc) but I don't see them buying a console only to play this game. I'm just a huge fan of the Dead or Alive/Virtua Fighter franchise and this game is perfect to play at a barbecue and the like. Also I hated the input lag with Dead or Alive Ultimate when playing online back in the day.

PS3 is lead platform so that will have the graphics edge, and if you ever decide to play online you don't have to pony up any cash.

Xbox 360 does have better online play but playing online on PS3 is not even that bad. I had watch people play online on PS3 and already tried Halo reach split screen with a friend and it was running very smooth but my friend told that both XBL & PSN lag sometimes. At the end of day it depends on.....well......both consoles are about equal lol so don't let the PS3 & 360 fanboys brainwash you into thinking PS3 is better or 360 is better because both systems can give you kick ass entertainment, so get both LOL

Since you say you're not gonna play online and you want to get arcade sticks, the controllers nor the online fee are a factor.. So.. In terms of pure performance, your safest bet is to wait till Digital Foundry releases a Face-Off and then make your decision. Usually it doesn't take that long before they release one. There's also Lens of Truth's Head2Head which does the same thing, but I personally prefer DF because they are more accurate and more thorough. Either will do though. LoT often seems to have comparisons a little faster than DF, but again, with less depth.

PS3. Its the lead platform, and the Alpha demo supports that it looks and runs better. You dont really need to wait for a comparison. plus, if you ever do want to play online, you can without paying for that.

If I remember correctly, some people on here were saying that in the E3 build, there was a noticeable difference in input lag when going from the X360 to the PS3. If that's true, I personally wouldn't bet on just that.

I know you said you wanted stick support, but PS3 trumps Xbox in controllers. My Xbox controllers and their rechargeable batteries were out of action within the year. So far my PS3 controllers have held up perfectly. But yeah, that probably doesn't help at all, just thought I'd add it in!

I've heard that too. And not just for DOA, but most FGs for the PS3...like it some type of built-in input delay in the system itself.

Love all of the opinions stated as fact in here. You really can't mention a choice between consoles anywhere on the internet without the inner fanboy peeking out, lol.

Objectively, PS3 is the lead platform, but both consoles will be locked to 60fps and should look on par. If you don't have any desire for online play now, it may be beneficial to future proof yourself by buying the console that more of your friends have anyway. Sticks make controllers a non-issue.

Having played both versions, they look pretty much identical and run smooth as hell. I had issues with input on the PS3 version and dropped a lot of things I never would have otherwise, but I'm not a fan of the PS3 controller for fighters due to the separated d-pad buttons. More of the veteran players will be on Xbox, but a lot of us are buying both consoles just in case. Really, find out what your friends have and buy the one they have as a majority.

Ps3 can play bluray movies on your tv when you realize that there is no fighting game that's any good on the market, and sit disappointed that you bought a whole machine for "this nonsense".
