The Official NorCal Thread

I'm NorCal as well, currently in Hayward but have plans to go down to San Luis Obispo on the central coast. I'm worried that I won't have any players to fight against after I make the move T-T.

Is there any way we could arrange a launch tournament of sorts at San Mateo Game Center or Sunnyvale/Milpitas GL?

Friend is probably gonna hold a DOA5 tournament on Oct 7. More than likely its going to take place in Merced CA. Going to wait a little longer for more information.

Nykko is considering something in Oct in the Bay area as well. Just trying to give you guys a early heads up.

Consider me a YES for the Merced tournament if it goes down.

I will be hosting a tournament in San Jose around late October/early November. I will keep everyone updated as it unfolds.

There's probably not an age requirement on here. Btw I was in the same situation as you were. My parents hated me attending video game tournaments since they thought it was just a waste of time even it were 5 miles away from me. So I basically gave them a deal, if i don't get top 3 in my first tournament I attended, didn't get money out of it and didn't keep my grades up while I was practicing that I would give up trying to compete. I was 16 at the time, got 2nd place a local tournament at irvine and got $75 out of it.

The next tournament I wanted to attend was in pasadena which was for a CGS qualifier. My parents were a bit skeptical at first when I told them If I won one of their two qualifiers that I would get paid $500 and get to attend the CGS combine at the time. (I wouldn't been able to audition though due to players needed to able to be at least 18 years or older to play) They thought it was a hoax that a tournament would pay that much, but I gave them the same deal like the first one, knowing that I would have to play a lot of better players here than in my first tournament. I got 2nd in the first qualifier and lost to HighGuy. I got 1st on the second qualifier and beat out DOA5. In the end of the day, I was paid the $500 in debit card form and my parents finally gave in that I actually can make a bit of money from playing tournaments.

Oops that was long. Overall, just take it step by step and try to convince your mom that you want to try out and play a local tournament around your area when the game comes out. If you think you are good at the game, you could make the same deal with your mom as i did with my parents.

lol i would love to do that. My mom wouldn't be against it (she might) if i had a chance at money and it wasn't on a school day. but I don't know if they would allow a 14 y.o to participate in a tournament : /. But i have no idea
i probably shouldn't have given my age since i still don't know if there's an age requirement.... CRAP!

Some of the local tournaments i've been to were free especially for the Mortal Kombat and Black Ops launch tournaments i've attended. Other local tournaments usually ask $10 or less to get into their tournaments.
There's usually no age requirement to join a tournament unless tournament organizers are picky about M-Rated games and if so, a parent just has to sign a waiver form to let his/her child participate in a tournament.

To everyone here: I'm looking at doing a tournament in Yuba City, possibly in mid-October. Normally I'd look into doing it in Sacramento, but because the venue I have here (the internet & game lounge that I play at) has five 360's, it was a no-brainer to do it here. I'm also going to be doing an online tournament series, with a "proof of concept" tournament on October 6.

What are the rules of the tourney? (normal life, 60 sec?)

Are xbox-to-ps3 controller ports allowed???

If not, will there be arcade sticks to use?

I'ma be there regardless.

Edit: I sent a mass text to all the Cali players on my FL to inform them of the tourney.

Ill ask about the xbox to ps3 converters. (edited) Yes there allowed.
As far as matches go probably regular tournament standard rules.
Normal Life 60 sec ( I think 99 would be too long)
2/3 double Elim
PS3 only
All stages allowed.
(Still debaiting on a Split on the pot or Winner takes all) *Depends on how many show up for DOA.

Yikes Merced?! Dang I won't be able to go to a tournament that far! I'll just be hoping for a tournament somewhere in the Bay Area soon.

Wow, Merced? I had no idea anyone did anything that close to me xD. Unless something comes up I should be free to go. The only problem I see is that I have no Ps3 stuff at all or any converters. Can't wait to see some of you again and meet some I missed.

Looks like the majority of the competitive stuff is gonna be on Ps3. I need to look into my options I guess.
