Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme Discussion & Release

(Notice: The DOAX/VV thread is getting extremely clogged with Prism's addition, and since Prism is being counted as the third DOA IP, it makes sense to grant Prism its own official thread. Please do not create any additional DOAX threads on Free Step Dodge as they will be locked. Please do not post any pornographic content as it is not officially included in any DOA game and violates are SFW policy. The initial post is a complete release program of Prism and is currently being perfected. Feel free to point out any corrections you may have related to Prism's complete release coverage.)

Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation: Prism has caught the attention of Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo players all over the world, and while it is not the next big mainstay Team NINJA title there are many factors to suggest that it will lead to bigger things in the future. Let's go over what we know so far pertaining to this title.

Concept

Without question, the most important piece of information we have been given so far is that Prism will be more of a dating simulator more than Venus Vacation ever was. While VV offers plenty of interaction with DOA girls; it's all about the eye candy for most players. The Prism experience will be more narrative driven and within weeks you can "fall in love" with one of the six available girls.

Players have also noted that the outfits available aren't very revealing and this is not because of Sony censorship. The developers are trying to make it a casual dating game. If you get a Venus to "love you" maybe then they will show themselves off to you in more revealing articles of clothing as a reward of bonding.

Spreading DOA Characters Across 3 Separate DOA Intellectual Properties

The six available Venus being: Misaki, Fiona, Tamaki, Elise, Honoka and Nanami at launch with only "consideration of future DLC" by the development team. Likely no DLC at all, but strong sales could definitely change that approach for any developer team.

Yasunori Sakuta pointed out some important aspects pertaining to the lack of original DOA girls being featured within Prism and believes it's a good thing that there are a strong variety of girls that aren't original DOA fighting characters. He states that if there is going to be a new IP for DOA that each IP will be different.

With DOA you have the classic competitive 3D fighting game, with DOAX/VV you have the sexy beach and volleyball experience and with DOAXVVP you have a narrative focus on dating one of the DOA girls.

From a personal POV, Prism probably should have more OG characters such as Kasumi and Ayane but making them available characters would be more of an interference for their storyline. Does falling in love with the owner destroy their storyline being bad ass NINJA characters? I think that is far more questionable than the original DOA female characters being tricked by Zack into taking a break on an island (DOAXVV).

Graphics & Engine Information

These characters were crafted using an optimized and updated version of Koei Tecmo's Katana engine. Some areas of the models look very nice and other areas such as the overly thin arms need some tinkering even after all of the final adjustments made for the release. The "arm issue" has been a prevalent issue within Koei Tecmo development for a while and even if it's a small nitpick that does not mean it isn't a concern. They have everything else done perfectly, but the arms should match the rest of the proportions as shown by NINJA Gaiden II Black.

There are things that the Katana engine can do that can't be done within DOAXVV. The most important being a higher range of freedom. You will walk with the girls on the island and see them walk on the island, and you will also see weather effects such as rain be implemented for the first time which will have an impact on the character models as well with tantalizing wet effects.

The beaches and vistas also look much better than what we've previously seen before. Just like Venus Vacation, Prism will revolve around taking stunning photographs to be shared on social media. The camera presented in this game is among one of the best cameras ever implemented into a video game.

Storyline

The storyline for Prism is pretty simple and depicts what you didn't see and what you didn't know with the Venus Vacation storyline that only these six Venus characters can incorporate according to Sakuta. Misaki appears to host and guide the owner through the Venus Festival which is a strength and beauty contest for the Venus.

Venus Vacation will continue as a Summer that never really ends, but Prism will start out as a standalone title where storylines will come to an end and expand into other titles if it is well received (it has been so far). Sakuta has also reminded the press that there will not be standard DLC in the swimsuit or character sense if any at all. It has actually been heavily implied that there will not be DLC; but that will always be left for debate and can change in the blink of an eye.

My guess is the selling point will be to buy new story chapters and that will be the DLC of the Prism title. Within those new story chapters is where you will be introduced to different characters rather than selecting one to take on a two-week vacation as done in DOAXVB-DOAX2 or setting a main character with your Venus Vacation experience.

There is a Complete Venus Vacation Prism: Dead or Alive Xtreme YouTube Playlist with every single complete story for each of the six girls, all of the cutscenes, endings, game interactions, individual mini-games and even the EX-Chapters. This is great for people that want to experience the entire game as a storyline, and for those that don't want to go through the importing hassle. Seeing as how the game requires so little interaction and is basically a visual novel; this spectating method will save you game costs as well.

Release Packages & Future

I think the most logical explanation is that if Prism is successful, it will branch off from being a physically/digitally owned PS4/PS5/STEAM/DMM to another FTP model, but naturally the team is not going to reveal that when in the beginning they are trying sell actual paid copies of the game like DOAX3 and DOAX3: Scarlett.

While the game seems enticing; the interviews presented do make it feel more like an experiment to see if the idea sticks to the DOAX audience but given how many people have asked for more dates (especially within the Japanese audience) there is no question that it will likely perform very well and sell out on websites like Play Asia.

Several weeks ago, the game almost broke Top 10 on the Japanese Amazon and is expected to be the highest imported game ever on the PlayStation 5 home video game console. If you are an EU or NA player, you will want to import the game by purchasing the Asian version of Prism.

Preordering the game gave you an early dress outfit for not just Nanami as shown in the promotional picture, but for the remaining five Venus as well. Preordering the game from the Koei Tecmo Store got you a "special clear file" for physical documents.

There are several editions of Prism you can purchase, but the basic edition does not include these extras from other editions, and the Special Collection Box "Goods" edition does not include the actual game. Also including an unboxing video you might like from Well-Known Community Member, @Jotamide!

Special Collection Box Contents:

- A 40-page artbook that contains all six Venus and a photo page with ASMR scenes.
- An additional date with Tamaki (DLC Code).
- One Fabric Poster that displays all 6 Venus.
- One Nanami Pillowcase that features two sides with alternative outfits.
- Yomu Illustration Desk Mat that features the Venus in business outfits.

The Premium Box also has a "Goods Only" version, but the Premium Box does not include the Pillowcase or Desk Mat.

TN just not that kind of developer that will revisit no profit project
It used to be. Let's not forget part of the reason they made the PSP Xtreme 2 port Paradise was specifically to test the waters to see if a new Dead or Alive game was viable. And the result is that we ultimately got Dimensions and 5, which points to a firm yes (did pretty well in terms of overall sales ESPECIALLY for a PSP game. By contrast, Peace Walker, also a PSP game, bombed so hard everywhere outside Japan despite an extensive marketing campaign that Konami actually had to change the key art for Ground Zeroes to omit Miller because of it.).

Getting further in the game, some pics I liked most as of recent:

Finally met Nanami and I can definitely say she's my favorite girl date wise, she likes taking pics like I do, she's the most down to earth and she seems like a more go with the flow person, her text messages are always more spacing out and just seeming to text when she's bored at a certain moment almost like casual girls irl. She's also visually very pretty imo, definitely a major step up from Venus Vacation when I didn't notice her much

Fiona I get entirely since she's an Aquarius like me xD she's very loving and seems devoted without being TOO clingy which I like, but you can definitely tell that she's just now stepping into the real world, and her text patterns imo are probably the most strange of the girls. She speaks super primitive in her texts but it makes sense since she's just now using a phone, and she always ends her message walls in the same "my love" way which is kind of eccentric.

This pic i like most but that also makes the game bittersweet in a way, knowing that in order to get closer to Nanami, I have to sometimes let down Misaki and that makes my anxiety rise at times since I don't like having to disappoint one person since i feel like I'm blowing off another girl. I think my heart sank when I had went to the dessert thing with Nanami since Misaki couldn't make it apparently but then she popped up out of nowhere and looked pretty hurt >.>

I'm kinda loathing the moment I'll have to either let down Nanami or Fiona since they're my highest affection girls atm, not including Tamaki who seems to be alot more secure and lax knowing there's other girls that can be pursued.

When they released Paradise, I was puzzled on why they didn't release it on PS3 as well.
Maybe that's why it sold poorly. I don't remember PSPs selling either.
Though they did release DOAX3 vanilla for both Vita and PS4.
Another thing could be lost, missing or corrupted source code.

@KasumiLover Prism looks pretty. Too bad the backgrounds are lacking.

The art director made it VERY clear that the reason they even MADE Paradise was to test the waters for another Dead or Alive game. So it obviously had to have some successful sales via that purpose, otherwise, Dead or Alive would have declared Chapter 11 Bankruptcy a LONG time ago instead of getting Dead or Alive Dimensions.

This is the interview in question that made this explicit:

Yeah that's the only thing I don't like much about Prism, beautiful models and alot of detail, but besides the furnished environments and inside locales, the outside stuff is kinda mid, but I can understand since the models themselves have a good deal of detail, especially with the hair and how the fabric moves. I even think Honoka retained her thigh physics since when I rotated her in the wardrobe mode, they moved briefly xD

Imo they should have released DOAX2 on PS3 as it's paradise tbh, I wasn't too big on paradise since the game was kinda gutted compared to X2

I've heard so many weird things over the years that I don't think anyone knows whether or not these things are true:

I heard Tomonobu Itagaki destroyed the master files and or code of games so that Koei Tecmo couldn't simply reprint them later on.

I've also heard that they just don't want to use his games or his lore. That could be true. Hatred runs deep between the two entities. Look at it how Stanley Kubrick directed The Shinning. Wish deeply that could change. He won against KT but it wasn't for much money IMO. They could recover the relationship and make A LOT more money now.

Wasn't it The Shining? Or was that deliberate in order to avoid a lawsuit?

It was a deliberate play on words. How many times did Kubrick kick King’s shins?

Similar to how many times did KT kick Itagaki? The big kick was obviously Kasumi’s victory over Raidou being over shadowed by Hayabusa’s help.

BTW DOAX Paradise sold less than 200,000 copies. So perhaps enough to make another game, but with hesitancy attached. Good thing they decided to keep it going.

Probably sold a bit better than the PSP version of Peace Walker, then. I heard the sales for that game were SO bad overseas that Kojima and Konami actually had Miller removed from the overseas keyart for Ground Zeroes partly because of Peace Walker bombing. That's what Kojima seemed to indicate, anyway:

As far as the bit regarding Kasumi and Raidou, eh, I'd argue them bringing Raidou back in DOA5 was even worse. Besides, compared to what Kojima did with Big Boss in MGSV or what he did to Solid Snake in MGS2, this wasn't quite as bad either way (at least they didn't have Kasumi doll up a random nobody to act in her stead to rehash a prior plot twist, and possibly also as a final attempt at flipping the bird at America).

EDIT: Also, that was more of a Simpsons reference, where Groundskeeper Willie after learning Bart reads minds tells him, in a blatant parody of the Shining, that he has the Shinning, with Bart correcting him on the term before Willie silences him and implied he deliberately pronounced it differently specifically to avoid a lawsuit.

On a side note, glad to see an actual explanation on how the heck Fiona even heard about the Owner, much less fell for him to such an extent that she went to the Venus Islands (I know she said something similar in DOAXVV in her seventh episode, but she never directly mentioned a video in there):

Well I’m not avoiding a lawsuit, but I’m not surprised that somehow the Simpsons shared direct correlation with my nonsense.

I thought that bringing back Raidou was a great idea. He’s an evil classic villain and it brought something strange to Honoka’s storyline that IMO worked better than people give credit for.

MGSPW sold 2m on PSP. Japan had the highest numbers.

I find the whole thing with Fiona to be quite strange and maybe even a bit confusing. I don’t keep up with the DMM outside of what our community posts here, but how did the girls get to Fiona’s castle for the sixth anniversary.

Did I miss something? Does she just have a castle at the island? Why do we not know where she comes from?

It's less the bit about Raidou coming back in itself that I have a problem with (heck, if anything, Honoka got MORE relevance thanks to Raidou's return, giving her something directly tying her to the cast in a significant way [like Phase 4 being a next-generation Kasumi clone, or Nyotengu hunting down Ryu Hayabusa for reasons tied to Bankotsubo's death], while if anything Marie Rose didn't get much by comparison [Helena's servant... ah, given her station, she has plenty of those]), and more the fact that it indicated that Kasumi failed to even finish him off properly, making her arc pointless.

And yeah, I know Peace Walker sold well in Japan, it's OUTSIDE Japan where it bombed heavily, and DESPITE it being given a World Tour during the leadup to its release, bombed badly enough that, if Kojima is to be believed, Konami insisted that he remove Miller from the overseas keyart for Ground Zeroes precisely BECAUSE its status as a bombed PSP game outside Japan would have people not be receptive to Miller.

Also, that wasn't Fiona's castle. If anything, the Owner somehow managed to create a castle to fill in the whole Cinderella theme (with it being implied he was some sort of wizard as well). You can read it up here, as I personally transcribed the Japanese text, and later the English localization:

Just wanna share my achievements of the first playthrough for best girl Elise. Unlocking costumes in this game is not hard but they're all pretty lame compared to previous titles
