Okay guys. While the game is still nearly a year(at the least) away from release I believe its time to choose a system of choice for DOA5 at offline events. This is an open debate and all sides are welcome to make valid points.

Pretty much the 2 well known valid points are these.

- Majority of DOA players(past and present) favor the xbox consoles.

- PS3 will most likely have the larger fanbase since majority of competetive tournament goers play on PS3.

Most arguements are usually determined by preference of controller of choice although nowadays it is more common to see people play fighters with dual modded sticks.

And of course Mr. Wah will bring up te point of the frame delay in the ps3 2D fighters( yet are not present in any of the 3D fighters i.e. tekken 6, sc4, or vf5).

PS3 frame delay is Capcom's fault, not the systems.

Realistically though, just play on whatever console the tournament is using.

by default i go with the 360 since it's already been the established system for the (small) community, but seriously i could play on whatever people need.

I intend to buy two copies of the game anyway.

I think it would be best to wait until the game is released and we know which version runs the best. Soul Calibur 4 had frame rate issues on the PS3, but because Playstation systems were the norm for fighters at the time, they decided to run it on PS3. To me this is very poor logic, and can cause issues in the long run. Personally, I only have a 360, but if the game runs better on PS3 I wouldn't mind buying a controller specifically to play the game in tournament.

Currently, SF4 is almost exclusively played on 360 (at least around here), which is a result of it running best on the 360 hardware. It wasn't always this way, and took time to be changed, but they decided it would be best to run the game on the platform that it runs best on. I think this would be the best course of action for us to take as well.

And in the event that both games are identical, I don't think it would matter as there are plenty of lag-free converters out there, or people can just buy a second controller.

Meh, I'm so used to it being on the xbox that I'd prefer it to be played on the xbox. But like Rikuto I'm also getting both versions, so I should be able to adjust to it.

I think its a furphy that most events run on PS3. It's the opposite in my experience barring the Namco games.
In any case, players will bring sticks/controllers that suit either system. What's good about multiplatform is you can have people BYO on both PS3 and Xbox to events. System choice is such a small factor that I honestly thought this thread was about something else, like life settings or something.

I suggest as core fans like a few of the guys here, buy it on both systems.

More importantly, its worth trying to learn the game on stick. That way, you don't have to be concerned with good or bad pads. Lets hope those input windows get tightened to suit that type of control.

Its a little loose currently, such that I play SF4, SC4, MvC3, VF5 and anything else on stick, but despite relearning DOA on stick, I've lately gone back to pad for occasional online matches because it was programmed to work with that pad.

^^^ pfft, scrub. Go play with lego or something.

I prefer the PS3 because the 360 pad is garbage and my sticks work on ps3s.

Have you ever tried playing DoA on a stick? It's friggan awkward. I play every other fighter with a stick, but I just can't use one with DoA. If that makes me a scrub, so be it.

I was playing DOA2 with arcade controls and 4 point hold and that it something you have to pull off with sticks. Yeah, sure you can do it with a pad too, but it's awkward as hell and why would you in the first place?

Because DoA's inputs are just weird to me with a stick. I can't play DoA at all with a stick. I've tried a dozen times over and it is just straight up awkward to me.

I'm used to both controllers since I played many hours of DoA 2 Hardcore and also the transition to DoA 3 and DoA2U on the pad. It doesn't really matter to me.

It depends on which game runs better which I'm sure it'll be pretty much the same on both consoles considering the experience they have already have with the PS3.

@ Kitchener: Good point. Before Ultimate, DOA2 was optimized for arcade sticks to begin with, hence its original Naomi arcade board incarnation.

The later games however (including Ultimate), weren't designed to be optimized for sticks, which may explain Raansu's difficulty... either that, or he's like me and doesn't see the point in using stick apart from showing off.

'Cause let's be real. Sticks aren't for everyone. For some, people are just naturals with it, for others, it's like somebody in Saint Seiya wearing a Saint Cloth without the ability to burn your cosmo... it's friggin' pointless, and they're better off without it. I'm no Street Fighter fan, but I have heard stories about Vangief's feat against this really good Rufus Shinra player a few years ago at that Evo-thingy using this SPD guy (Power Rangers SPD? I dunno...) with a pad.

I don't know where people are getting this "PS3 is the tournament standard" thing from. Almost all majors these days use 360 for most of the games. The only reason Evo sticks to PS3 is because that's what they have, and they don't want to buy new consoles until they absolutely have to.

It's WAY too early to determine the system of choice for DOA5. That decision can't be made until the game is out and we know if there are any noticeable flaws in one version. However, there are a few universal pros and cons to each system that can be discussed.

Xbox 360
+ Very easy to avoid match interruption from a random player's wireless controller.
+ All previous competitive DOA games were played on this platform.
+ In most cases, competitive Capcom players prefer the 360.
+ WCG uses this platform.
- The controller is absolutely horrid for fighting games, and there are a considerable number of DOA pad players.
- Classic 360 models have a tendency to red-ring more often than not.

PS3
+ The best controller on the market for fighting games.
+ Evo's platform of choice.
- Potentially smaller DOA player base, due to previous titles in the series being Xbox-exclusive.
- Difficult to avoid match interruption unless you ban wireless controllers (which creates more issues).

I will probably get the game on the PS3. I currently play DOA on stick, but I'm on my 4th 360 and I'm just not confident that it will last. I don't want to have to get it fixed or buy a new one when my launch PS3 still works just fine. Also, in the event that I want to switch to pad, I'd like to have that option without the need to use a converter.

It's not that I don't see the point in it, I'd prefer to use a stick if I could, but for some reason it's just awkward on DoA. It's similar to if I tried playing VF with a pad...it just aint gonna happen.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Leave it on Xbox until something is shown that the PS3 is better.
See, my thought process is that if every other fighter is running on PS3 at an event, we should piggy-back and also run on that so we're not trying to be different.

Because DoA's inputs are just weird to me with a stick. I can't play DoA at all with a stick. I've tried a dozen times over and it is just straight up awkward to me.
I think it really has to do with the whole buffer system and just how loose everything is. I felt the same way as you but then trying out DOA++ with a stick just felt so right. I wish they'd go back to that with the inputs.
