Tiers are Bull, let's make every character top tier!

I was going to post my thoughts, but JDE's first post was what I was going to say. Play the character you like, learn them inside and out and make the people who switch to high/top tier characters actually learn their characters to actually beat you and not just use top tier flow charts to beat you. Use the lists to know who you should be ready for since most people do pick characters that are higher, but only as a guide not a rule book of the only way to win. Pick the character you like, you will play better in the end if you do so.

And Sett beat me to saying only balanced fighting game is one with only one character to pick. Even divekick has a tier list since they have different size limbs, hit/hurt boxes and angle of dives. It is just inherent in fighting games with two or more characters that there will be pluses and minuses to each character when compared.

You know all the Mila hype has kind of killed my reason to play her...and how once again no one in their mama wants to play Zack pisses me off as well. And don't get me start how most of these hacks don't understand Zack at all and do the dumbest shit with him or do the dumbest things against him. I feel only a main of a character understands that character. An outsider who isn't willing to breakdown the character fully is just a hack.

Some characters are easier to mash out than others. See Kung Lao in MK9 or Nightmare in SC5. Even if they are easy to flowchart and win with, once they get broken down and figured out, they're up to skill and not their "tools".
Jade is incredibly hard to win with, I still beat 75% of my opponents and it takes somebody like UsedForGlue to actually school me. But each time he beats me, I become a notch harder to beat for the rest.

So the bottom line is this:
Do not fear to pick a character you like and duke it out.
If there are tiers, they only mean how mashable and easy-win a character is.

I hereby start the Anti-Tierist Movement in fighting games!

My point is that people like to pick up the character that's easiest to win with and then call it top tier. And when somebody beats the snot out of the munchkin character, suddenly that character is top tier too.
Also matchups listed like 5-5 or 6-4 etc, are nonsense. I know a lot of players that simply play every fighting game so much that they could beat me with the "lowest tier" while I play the "highest tier".

My point is that there is this general attitude that "Our way of playing is the only good way" and "only this and this and this character is good and omg how dare you beat me with that low tier trash SAAAALT" and "Scrubs are good for your skin so c'mon buddy sit on my back for a minute".

Ultimately my point is that categorizing characters based on "this character is garbage" is a very closed-minded approach and it will make people play one or two characters as opposed to the entire cast. Me, I want each and every character represented and the elitism and negativity gone, with good sportsmanship and a positive attitude in mind.

All the wishful thinking in the world isn't going to change the fact that certain characters are top and certain characters are trash.

you're right....even new smash players don't get this either. Trust me explain the tier list to them was a headcache. but is it fair for other players to make fun of people who use a bad character? I got made fun when I played Tager in BB, Jax in MK before the patches, and Talim in SC 4.

I think most people here are a bit more civilized than that.

No one made fun of me at D.I.D.7 for using Christie.

A tier list does not dictate who you can win with. It does not measure the difference in player skill. It's just a list of statistics when played at max level.

Here's the thing: The game has been out for one month. Very few (if any) tournaments of any real significance have happened, and I say that having won some.

Instead of people getting all upset about tiers and coming to premature conclusions, why don't people actually take time to "analyze" (which I say with a grain of salt since some of the so called analysis I read here makes my head want to explode) the game and it's characters before drawing conclusions.

I dare the OP to pick a Shuma/Hsien-Ko/Phoenix Wright team in UMvC3 and go up against a Morrigan/Doom/Akuma team, or to learn Sean in 3rd Strike and go play against a tournament level Chun Li.
You're right, we should all just play DIVEKICK.

Money matches anyone?
Divekick has a tier list. We've found that the slight differences between both characters are enough to put one over the other.

for the most part yeah. Did you do well at DID 7 though with Christie?
That ain't the point. You implied that people maliciously make fun of people using low-tier characters in tourneys like it's a regular thing. I used an example from my perspective in the hopes of proving that theory wrong.

@TRI Mike: Until my dying breath.

All fighting games do. Even Super Smash Bros.

People get the wrong interpretation about tiers. Playing with a top-tier don't guarantee you a win & playing don't with a low-tier guarantee a loss. You have to know the character & game inside & out. It's still too early to talk about tiers. It's like DR2K said. They are statistics of the fighters played to the max. They'll always be a factor in fighting games.

Here's an example: take Ayane & Lisa. Ayane has more tools than what she has. However, that Lisa player knows how to adapt to that Ayane player & controls the entire fight. Now turn the table vice versa. Ayane's moves are too much for the Lisa player to overcome & she gets dominated during the fight. That's what it explains.

You can win, but you have to know what it takes in order to. That's all. That's why you have to take the time & learn the game

This. Again.

I'm all for good characters but that's on Team Ninja. The tier list is more like... a results list.

Even a pro player of Jann Lee can make mistakes and lose out by a lot on it, and even if they don't make mistakes so easily, at some point, they will be vulnerable.

Right. It can be done. It's not common, but it does happen. I seen Rabies, Rikuto, NinjaCW, PL, Swoozie, BLK Mamba all do it. Mamba did it at the launch tourney with Helena. She was considered terrible (when the game launched & the character reviews from IGN were out) & he STILL came in 3rd.

Edit: Chosen1 & Kat Mystik done it before.
